There sure are a lot of different ways to lose weight however, you should always try to use the tips that you can easily blend into your present lifestyle. If you try something that's just not feasible for you, you will probably only fail in your weight loss attempts.
There is one tip though, that's easy to do and is very important to know. If you don't do anything else to help you lose weight, at least try this most important tip!
You see, everyone is unique. Everyone gains and loses weight differently. Knowing how your body responds to the demands of daily life can help you create better health and wellness that's achievable for you.
To lose weight more efficiently, try to eat slowly. Slow down your pace and taste your food and enjoy it! When you slow down, you will be much less likely to overeat. When was the last time you can honestly say you sat down and really thought about the food you were eating? We seem to get used to just 'eating', and forget to taste how good it really is.
You will also learn more about the texture(s) of the foods you eat. When you eat a strawberry slowly for example, the small seeds in them become much larger and crunchier. Feel the consistency of food on your tongue. How does it really taste?
Food was meant to be medicinal. It nourishes your body and your cells and gives you energy. Food should be enjoyed and appreciated! You will find that tasting your food and chewing thoroughly is one of the easiest and best ways to lose weight!
When I was a child, we had chewing contests at the dinner table while we ate! I had siblings, who with me, were expected to see how long we could chew each bite! Whoever chewed their food the longest won the contest! Guess what the prize was?
Well, nothing. We didn't win anything materialistic. We just 'won'! That's all!
The real prize that we 'got', we really didn’t understand or 'get' at the time. That prize was simply 'good digestion'. I have rarely had indigestion my whole life because I learned at an early age to chew my food a lot!
Many people think that digestion starts in the tummy but it actually starts with enzymes in your saliva. You'll have better digestion if you eat more slowly too. Starting digestion the right way, is necessary for you to feel healthy and unbloated. When you have good digestion, you also have good elimination, which makes it one of the best ways to lose weight!
My mom sure knew a lot more than she let on! She knew that one of the best ways to lose weight is to eat slowly. Your digestive process starts in your salivary glands. The mixture of food and saliva prepare food for further digestion in the gastric juices of your stomach.
When you don’t chew your food properly, you are setting yourself up for a variety of stress on all your major bodily functions. When your body is stressed, you won't lose weight!
1) You should realistically chew food at least 50 times per mouthful!
2) If you are a Cancer patient or a Cancer patient in recovery, you should chew your food 100-200 times per mouthful!
Moreover, chewing your food properly helps you feel full faster! The faster you eat, the less you notice you are getting full, and then BAM! You realize (ding, ding, ding) you're full. You are much more likely to overeat if you eat fast! Make sense?
Don’t you remember as a child how you would mess around with your food at the dinner table and either eat really slowly, play with your food, or not eat too much at all? Do you remember why?
It was probably because you were thinking of going back outside and playing or finishing up your homework or talking to your friends on the phone! Food was not your main focus, therefore you ate slower and you ate less. (Unless you were totally bored, and boredom can make you gain weight just thinking about it!)
Food is supposed to be ingested slowly. How can you expect to lose weight if you are eating at the speed of light? It is better not to eat at all, than to eat too quickly!
Eat food in an orderly and relaxed environment. If you eat out at a really nice restaurant, they extend the meal over several hours. Not so? They serve you a bit here, and a bit there, and by the end of the meal, guess what? You are really full!
That's the same principle that I am talking about! You need to enjoy your food and STOP stuffing your face! Don’t add another mouthful of food until you have finished the one that is in your mouth! That's one thing I constantly have to remind my son about. He forgets sometimes and stuffs more food into his mouth, before he has finished chewing his first bite.
I have been preaching to him since he was a toddler; 'to eat slowly and enjoy your food'. One day he will remember by himself, but until then I am determined to be the 'harp queen'.
Don't WOLF your food As my own dear mom used to say: 'You are not going to a FIRE so slow down!' Chewing your food properly is not rocket science, but is still one of the best ways to lose weight!
*Since I wrote this page over a year ago, my son now comes to my room before we eat dinner and reminds me to 'enjoy my food and eat slowly'. He is 19 years old now and has learning disabilities but he remembers what dear old mom has been saying to him since he was a toddler. Too cool! Don't believe how much your habits affect weight loss?
If you have a hard time eating slowly, you may want to think about trying full bars. This product is specifically designed to be eaten before meals to help you curve your appetite.
More Ways to Lose Weight
Cut your food up into bite sized pieces. Cutting your food up into smaller bite sized pieces will ultimately make you 'think' you have more food.
You can 'see' it.
This optical perception is transmitted to your brain. If you see more food on your plate, your brain will acknowledge that and you'll trick yourself into believing you've actually got more food on your plate. Your stomach will feel fuller from eating such a 'large' meal, when all you really did was cut your food up into smaller bite sized pieces.
You can lose weight, just by utilizing the perception that you have eaten more!
This is a 'brain trick' you can use often. Cut your food up into smaller pieces and you will 'see' why its one of the most terrific ways to lose weight that I know!
One of my favorite dinners includes smaller bites of sweet potatoes and cooked cabbage. The combination is extremely satisfying and extremely healthy. Sweet potatoes are high in nutrients like vitamin C and cooked cabbage helps provide the intestines with the healthy flora you need for good bowel movements, which are especially important if you want to lose weight. When you combine healthy foods with smaller bites, your benefit is two fold.
When you are through eating, get busy! You will burn off those extra calories by getting busy and doing something! Just another great ways to lose weight!
