Be smart about the money you have! If you learn to cut back even when times are tough, then you'll have at least some for emergencies. (Like those unexpected bills that appear out of nowhere!) Remember that money is just like magic! It can disappear right into thin air if you're not paying attention!
In order to stretch your dollars, it is imperative to know how to spend the money you have wisely... but you must also be able to take charge of your future.
Social Security income in the US may not be around much longer for many of us if the federal government can't get their act together and help find ways to cut the deficit! That's why it's good to know some easy and simple ways to start cutting costs at home today!

Although it should be against the law for power companies to charge us so much for energy, they continue to raise prices. A better solution is to go solar, if you have the money to invest in the panels. Once they're operational, you can give the power company the BIG BIRD!
Did you know that the newer digital wide screen TV’s use a lot more POWER than the old analog TV’s used? Just another reason to cut the power when they're not in use!
Wash smaller amounts of dishes by hand instead of running the dishwasher. Fill up the sink with hot soapy water and get scrubbing! You'll use more muscles, save money, and your dishes will get just as clean! Voila!
Instead of using costly and toxic cleaners, use a simple solution of apple cider vinegar and water to clean windows, floors, and counters.
If you use a lot of herbs in your dishes, why not make an herb spiral in your yard? Plant drought smart plants at the top and moisture-loving plants at the bottom. Use leftover bricks or stones if you have them to outline your raised bed to save money. You can easily make your own herb garden, even if they're just in container pots!
You might also consider stocking up on basic food items just in case something critical happens! You just never know when the next food shortage might happen!
Make your own bracelets or neclaces instead of going out and spending loads more for pre-made stuff from China. All you need are some beads, elastic, and clasps! See if you can't find some type of project to keep you busy so you're NOT out buying more junk to bring home!
Instead of showering twice a day if you work outside, try washing off with a warm washcloth in exchange for one of those showers. During hot summers and if you live in a private neighborhood, rinse off with the outside hose if possible. I promise you, you'll get cool fast!
Cook your meals outside on the grill during all months of the year, which will save you energy in the kitchen. In the winter, it makes a great excuse to get outside. During the summer, it's a great way to keep heat out of the kitchen.
Do you know where your money goes? Do you have a monthly budget that you stick to, no matter what? Planning in advance is as important as paying bills on time!
Buy clothes that are off season and save money by the truck load! After season sales are the best time to swoop up savings on the things that your family needs. Alternately, you can find a lot of bargains on clothing at knock-off stores, vintage clothing stores, or clothes swapping sites.
Bundle phone services with your cable bill when plans are available or buy a accessible phones to save money like crazy.
If you have pets, cook real food for them instead of buying the canned stuff. You can buy a whole chicken for $5 and bake it in the oven, then cut it up after it's cooled into bite sized pieces. Mix with chopped veggies and rice and you've got a feast fit for a spoiled dog or cat! You're pets will get more essential fats and nutrients that are missing in store bought brands.
If it aint broke, don't fix it! However, there is an exception to this rule.
If appliances you use regularly outlive their efficiency, you'll only create a nightmare of an energy bill! In that case, it's best to ditch the old stuff and invest in newer versions of the appliances you need.
Ditch your fancy movie cable channels and watch movies on your TV or computer. You can get an endless selection from Netflix for only $7 a month. You'll should be able to use those savings for something good!
Sixteen and twenty ounce soda's cost a lot of money to buy individually from the store. Buy liter sized cola's if you must have them and drink more water instead. Use lots of ice too, as ice will turn into water later on and you'll drink it along with whatever is in your glass!
And lastly, in case you didn't know, most physicians get a kick-back from drug companies for helping to promote their products, whatever they may be. Far too many prescription drugs are written each year that can lead to prescription drug abuse later on. Cost-wise, it can be devastating! Prescriptions cost a lot of money to buy, especially if you can't afford health insurance!
With all of the technological advances that have been made today, the financial health of the global world is certainly questionable. Monetarily, we should all be thriving, instead of having to think of ways to save money all the time! A declining middle class is just part of the equation. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be anything that will change for quite some time and it worries me.
