If you want to lose weight, then eat healthy foods. You can lose weight if you go back to the basics and learn to eat foods that are nutritious and delicious! Eat simple foods that are simply delicious!
This is the thing... Don't stuff your face with complicated, fancy, fatty foods! It only makes sense that if you eat fatty foods, you are gonna get fat!
I have been a single mom for more years than not. My son and I eat well and he would be the first to tell you that I am a good cook! But relative to that, the foods we eat are simple foods. What do I mean by that? Well for one thing, the food we eat is REAL FOOD. That means we don’t have meals that are high in calories.
Below is a picture of a 'simple meal' recently fixed for dinner.
This meal follows the guidelines for healthy serving sizes we all know. It includes a pork chop browned in *cold pressed Olive Oil, freshly steamed green beans with fresh onions, and a delicious sweet potato casserole with prunes. It's a wonderful meal, very filling, inexpensive, and very easy and quick to fix.
The most important part of it? It is both nutritious and delicious!
Looks pretty great, huh? This healthy meal only took about 1/2 hour to fix! Very aesthetically pleasing, not so? The colorful plate, the colorful display of different healthy, nutritional foods. These things make a big difference to your palate!
If you're wondering, that is one medium sized pork chop, cooked about 10 min. per side in cold pressed olive oil. If you cut your meat up into bite sized pieces, it sure looks like more on your plate than it does before you cut it up~
Another example of a simple meal you might fix for dinner is a boneless chicken breast fried in cold pressed Olive Oil with wild rice. Add to that a big healthy serving of lightly steamed broccoli and that’s it! (Wild rice and broccoli are 'complimented' by adding a touch of real LIGHT butter with fresh ground salt and pepper only.)
That’s all we need! AND it’s really good! If you just eat healthy foods, you will lose weight!
When you fix chicken or other meats for a meal, be sure to RINSE the meat thoroughly and completely dry it with a paper towel before cooking it.
Watching Rachael Ray cook boneless chicken breasts last weekend, really shocked me. She took the chicken right out of the package and cooked it. She didn't wash it at all. Eeewwww! Gross!
Wash your meat under cold water, then dry it with a paper towel before cooking. Clean the gunky junk off the edges of the meat. This includes the fat and the veiny stuff along the sides. You'll not want that crap in your cooking oil, more less your body! Take a few minutes to get rid of bacteria and fat that could cause you problems!
If you want to eat healthy to lose weight, you gotta omit eating the stuff that isn't healthy~
Also, when you are frying most types of meat, be sure to cook it about 10 minutes, (using medium low heat), on one side before turning it. You want to 'sear' the meat to lock in the nutrients. And of course, use *cold pressed Olive Oil for most of your frying!
Cooking the meat this way will render the meat more tender and will also create a golden brown crust. If you are cooking a boneless chicken breast, cook 10 minutes on one side, then 10 minutes on the other side, and you are done! And so is your chicken! This is the healthy way to cook chicken especially.
You can eat healthy and lose weight!
Another thing we have less often in our home is bread. We may have bread with lunch, but not with dinner. I have found that we don’t really even miss it much anymore. Most people don't know this but most people are allergic to wheat gluten. This is especially true if your blood type is 'O' and somewhat true if your blood type is 'A'.
I also buy 'light' of any food I can find! See how inventive you can become when you learn to budget your food consumption and know to serve low fat meals that are healthy!
Learn to love yourself, eat healthy, and you will lose weight!
Below is a list of light foods. You can’t tell a difference between the light foods and the higher calorie foods, if you just give them a chance. If your goal is to eat healthy, then include them at least some of the time.
Light Foods Include:
Light sour cream
Light whole wheat bread (which by the way, light bread of most any kind has 5 grams of fiber, as opposed to 0 - 3 grams compared to other breads!)
Light butter (I prefer Land O Lakes)
Low fat cookies, or plain cookies like Ginger Snaps or Vanilla Wafers
Light pudding mix
Light whipped topping
2% Milk
Reduced fat crackers (yes, they taste just the same)
Diet cokes, etc.
2% cheese slices when available
Low fat cottage cheese (for my wonderful cheesy lasagna with NO MEAT)
'Half the Sugar' Cereal
Sweetener for my coffee, such as Sweet and Low
2% Milk for my coffee (No creamers please!) (I used these for a while and I gained weight; they had to go!)
Reduced fat Peanut Butter
Baked Potato Chips! These cost a little more than regular chips but are so much better for you. If you gotta eat chips, try baked chips. How much is your health worth?
You can buy baked ruffles, lays or doritos! They have so much less fat, NO TRANS FAT, NO CHOLESTEROL, and are quite delicious! Another low fat snack would be pretzels.
If you don’t get enough exercise, adjust your life to it. Whenever you have a choice, make it a good one for your health! Cut back, where and when you can!
Eat real wholesome foods! You will be more satisfied when you do eat and be less tempted to snack on junk food in between meals! Eat healthy meals that satisfy you and you will be far more likely to lose weight! Just don't starve yourself! That’s just silly.
