Calcium Supplement for Strong Bones

Calcium supplement works best when taken with magnesium and zinc.

These supplements are most beneficial when taken together!

All of these minerals are an essential part of physiological function.

Calcium is essential for building strong bones and teeth and is directly related to maintenance of them. It also acts as a nerve nutrient and assists in normal blood clotting.

You are likely to be deficient in calcium supplement if you have muscle cramps, insomnia, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart rhythm disturbances or high blood pressure.

Health Benefits of Calcium

  • Regulates heartbeat
  • Conducts nerve impulses
  • Stimulates hormone secretions
  • Clots blood
  • Builds and maintains healthy bones

Calcium is a mineral found in many foods. Getting enough calcium is extremely important because your body cannot make it. As you grow older, adequate calcium intake is important because the body loses calcium every day through the skin, nails, hair, and sweat, as well as through urine and feces. Lost calcium must be replaced daily through the diet or by supplemental form. Otherwise, the body takes calcium from your bones to perform other functions, which makes the bones weaker and more likely to break over time.

Depression has also been linked to high and low levels of calcium and magnesium. Low levels are often associated with anxieties as well. Prescription drugs, such as sedatives or tranquilizers, are commonly prescribed for depression. These drugs deplete or interfere with calcium and magnesium absorption.

These same prescription drugs are also often prescribed to patients who show signs of anxiety or insomnia. Over time, these drugs will further deplete minerals, when the real cause was possibly low levels of these supplements to begin with!

Unfortunately, this is symptomatic of drug therapy in the U.S. especially and continues to be a trademark of modern medicine.

If you haven’t been taking them and have mild depression or just daily anxieties, try taking some calcium and magnesium for your symptoms!

    Food Sources of Calcium

Common sources of calcium are milk, yogurt, cheese, collards, broccoli, leafy green vegetables, salmon with the bones, bread, cereal, and some orange juices.

Calcium exists in nature only in combination with other substances. These substances are called compounds. Several different calcium compounds are used in supplements include:

  • Calcium Carbonate
  • Calcium Phosphate
  • Calcium Citrate.

    Daily RDA for Calcium

    Women
    Age 9 to 18 years: 1300 mg
    Age 19 - 50 years: 1000 mg
Over Age 51 years: 1200 mg

    Pregnancy
    Under Age 19: 1300 mg
Age 19 and Over: 1000 mg

    Lactating
    Under Age 19: 1300 mg
Age 19 and Over: 1000 mg

    Men
    Age 9 to 18 years: 1300 mg
    Age 19 - 50 years: 1000 mg
Over Age 51 years: 1200 mg

These recommendations were published by the National Academy of Sciences in 2004.

Calcium, magnesium, and zinc are three of the most important minerals the body needs to maintain good health. Calcium and magnesium help maintain healthy bones while zinc is essential for cell division and growth. Zinc is an essential element needed to support a healthy immunity.

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body. Average healthy males have about two and a half to three pounds of calcium in their bodies while females have about two pounds. Approximately 98% of calcium is found in the bones and teeth.

Iodine is also essential for calcium absorption. If you aren't getting enough iodine in your diet, your body can't utilize calcium properly.

While the most important function of calcium supplement involves the maintenance of skeletal health, the small percentage of calcium outside the bones and teeth is used to maintain a large combination of vital body functions. For good overall health, take these supplements together. They help your bodies overall function and work in unison, although vitamin d is also needed for better absorption.
