How to Zap Zits - Pimples, and Blackheads!
Most everybody gets zits from time to time. It is also true that some people get them more than others. Overly productive sebaceous glands play a big role in how your skin looks and the amount of pimples you have. There are many good products on the market that can help you remove them but there are also some great alternatives you may not know about that are less expensive!
You may not be able to change what Mother Nature dictates. Sometimes raging hormones and family genes will win the day. Your diet is also a big role player. What you put into your body surely shows up on your skin!
That said, there are a few simple things you can do to ensure you get the best possible results, even if you've got overly active sebaceous glands or acne prone skin. What you do and don't do have a great effect on how your skin looks!
How to Erase Blackheads
The first thing you should keep in mind is that blackheads are merely a collection of oils or dirt, trapped under the skin. You can avoid getting them altogether most of the time, if you keep your skin clean and deter from placing your hands on your face during the day.
If you do have them, blackheads should be removed by gently squeezing them from either side. Its a good idea to open your pores FIRST, using warm water compresses or steam.
When you squeeze the area, a hard tubular oil strand with a black head will emerge. If it doesn't, DON'T keep squeezing it. Try the warm compress again but if you still can't get it to budge, leave it alone for another day or try again later. If it doesn't emerge, its just not ready yet. You definitely don't want to scar your skin so leave it alone!
Help pull blackheads to the surface by using regular Elmer's Glue! Apply a thin coat to the area, wait till its good and dry, then grab a corner and pull the dried glue off gently.
Oatmeal, pineapple, apricot, and milk are all great exfoliators and contain active enzymes. You can find face scrubs with these ingredients, which are great at reducing zits around problem areas, such as the nose, forehead, or chin.
Combine 1 tablespoon of ordinary oatmeal with one egg white. Add just enough local/organic honey to make a thick sticky paste. Apply to prone areas and massage into the skin for at least 10 minutes. Allow to dry and splash off with plain water.
Combine 1 tablespoon of yellow whole whole de-germinated cornmeal with one tablespoon of facial cleansing cream, any kind. Mix to the consistency of a paste and massage into the region of the blackheads. Keep massaging to create what's known as derma-friction. which helps remove unsightly zits around the nose and chin especially.
Try this method too: Wash your face thoroughly. Rub a thick slice of tomato over blackheads and allow to dry. Done regularly, the natural acids in tomato helps dissolve blackheads over time.
How to Erase Pimples
Getting rid of pimples is a bit harder and may take a little longer. Pimples are small or large pustules that are caused by skin irritation. They form because of overactive sebaceous glands or from a collection of oils, bacteria, or other debris. They contain either a yellowish/white or clear pus that's full of bacteria. If small pustules are not treated immediately, they can become quite large and are much harder to remedy. Because of this, they can take longer to dry up and go away as well.
Try products that contain Benzoyl Peroxide first. These are recommended by most physicians. This active ingredient helps break up the plug of dead skin cells, bacteria, and oils that clog the pores and form zits. Start with lower concentrations, and work your way up. Good products to start with are Zapyt Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment Gel and Clearasil Vanishing Acne Treatment Cream.
You can also use 'on the spot treatments' like Clean and Clear Acne Spot Treatment to zap large pimples that may be painful! Of course, many people swear by Proactiv.
If you don't see improvement, some people would never suggest popping pimples because there is a chance of spreading bacteria and causing more pimples. However, if your pimple hurts, you may choose to consider it.
If you DO decide to pop them, use the sharp end of sterilized slanted tweezers. Gently 'prick' the pimple as close to the skin as possible. It should start oozing a small amount of oil. Apply a small piece of tissue or sterile gauze to the area to soak up oils and bacteria that are expelled. You can apply some pressure to the zit but excessive pressure should be avoided. Then wait patiently until it stops oozing and until the tissue dries.
Use a cotton-ball and bathe the area in regular 3% Hydrogen Peroxide to start the drying process. Once the skin is completely dry, apply a thin layer of hydro-cortisone steroid cream to the area. This combination really works fast!
Action Steps for Zits
It is a myth that chocolate and fried foods cause zits. What can cause them to form is what you do with your hands while and after you consume them. If you don't use a napkin to wipe your hands off, you may transfer oils from your hands to your face. Then guess what happens? Your face will be more likely to break out!
Remember that money is DIRTY! Yuck! Do not handle money then touch your face. You'd be surprised at how many germs (and drug residues) are found on money alone. Always wash your hands after you handle money.
Don't clean your face excessively. Over-cleansing might render your skin oil free but it also triggers oil glands to produce more oils, which defeats the purpose. There is a fine balance that needs to be maintained, so don't mess it up cleansing too much!
If you get pimples on a regular basis, you should avoid excessive sugars and sodas because they exacerbate pimples and will only make them worse. You should also be aware that excess bromides can also break out your skin.
Consume more raw fruits and veggies to help eliminate pimples for good.
Simple Solutions for Zits
Use diluted apple cider vinegar on your zits! You can also drink apple cider water or take the supplements.
Squeeze the contents of 1/2 lemon into a small glass and add equal parts of water. Use a cotton ball to apply over pimples regularly. If it stings too much, dilute the mixture with more water.
Make a simple mask using one tablespoon of plain yogurt with one tablespoon of wheat germ. Apply generously to face and/or problem areas and allow to dry thoroughly. Remove by rinsing with plain warm water.
Two OTC products to try are 'toothpaste' and 'Vicks vapor rub'. That might sound a bit strange, but some people swear by using them. Just apply any plain toothpaste or Vicks to zits and leave overnight.
Taking garlic supplements regularly and/or adding garlic to your dishes will help clear up pimples. Garlic has antibacterial properties which helps destroy bacteria in your body so it doesn't have a chance to make it to your skin!
Tea tree oil has many antimicrobial properties. Add a couple of drops to your favorite facial lotions to help reduce the incidence of bacteria forming.
Use these tips to help clear up zits fast! No one likes to have them. Clear skin is always more desirable.
