Will Dawn Dish Soap Help Remove Hair Color?

by Mandie
(Rhode Island)

I have dyed my hair many different times. It has been bleached at one time and has gradually gotten darker. My most latest color is Jet Black and now I am regretting it and want my natural blonde back. I've heard that one of the best ways to fade the black out was adding Original Dawn Dish liquid to shampoo or adding lemon juice to conditioner. Are these ways actually as safe for the hair as I have read?

**************

Dawn detergent and shampoos like Prell, will only work if you use them immediately, so if you just did this, use them quickly. Do several shampoos and leave them in your hair for at least 3 minutes before rinsing out. Lemon could help but with dark color, apple cider vinegar might work better because its slightly more acidic.

However, no matter what you do, you will still have to use a chemical to remove the rest of the color from your hair.

You can either use a hair color remover (it will take at least two applications most probably) or bleach. If you opt for bleach, please have it done professionally. Trying to remove dark hair colors with bleach on your own is risky. You may end up frying your hair and the color removal can look splotchy at best.

Once the color is safely removed from your hair, you are free to color it blonde or use a toner on your hair.
