Will an Ash Toner Reduce Golden or Copper Hair Colors?

Just last night I went to get my hair done (it had been a while and kinda goofed with a box treatment), and he dyed it with a level 8 golden blonde and added platinum highlights.
Well, I paid $160 for it to look the same as did before (I had used a golden color out of box) and now my hair looks copper. After expressing that I didn't like it, he offered to tone it down with an "Ash Toner". Will this work? I'm fair skinned, and have naturally dirty blonde hair.

Geez! I would have thought he'd have seen that your hair was already golden. Why he would add more gold to your already golden hair I have no clue.
Ash colors (blue based) do work best to get rid of red or golden colors but since there is no lift with a toner, the results would be minimal at best. Toners are usually deposit only colors.
In order to change the color, your hair needs to be lifted with at least a 15 - 20 volume peroxide mixed with a level 8 or 9 ash hair color.
Using a toner only, it is very doubtful that you'll see any visible difference.
I would let the goof try the toner though, just to satiate his incompetence, then complain about it to the salon manager.
PS If you try and fix this at home, just be sure that you get a blue based ash color and not a green based ash color!
