Which Hair Product Should I Use?

Order the WEN® Healthy Hair Care System and receive FREE bonuses

Q) Which hair product should I use?

I have fairly short hair that’s a natural dirt blonde color. I’ve dyed and bleached it for probably 14 years. Recently I have started getting colored blonde, red, and black. I previously used Dove shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair and it was the best I’ve ever used. They quit making it now and have products for lightened hair or darkened hair, not just color-treated hair. My question is which product should I use since my hair is both light and dark? Should I use a lightened shampoo and a darkened conditioner or visa versa. Thanks in advance!

Professional Hair Care Answer - First let me say that Wow! I bet the colors look great! I just love color variations and wish more people would try them!

That is a bummer when manufacturers stop making products we trust and love! I know exactly what you're talking about though. You've got a wide range of colors so NOT any one color specific shampoo will treat it.

Fortunately, color enhancing products don't have any color chemicals in them. They only treat the outer layers of the hair to help refresh color. Still, which hair product do you choose?

I would opt for a 'general' color treated shampoo and conditioner and just not buy the color specific ones, OR I'd choose the medium range color specific shampoo and conditioner. Thats what I do! I have blonde, chocolate brown, and spicy copper colors in my own hair and use the light/medium brown range of both shampoo and conditioner. Each manufacturer has their own version. I use John Frieda Brilliant Brunetteicon Amber to Maple range, which I LOVE! and Pantene Pro V Expressionsicon Toffee to Almond range. (both are for light brown, medium range). These do well with my color ranges. (You can really use 'any' of them.) They really don't add any color, just enhance it. The only way to 'change' permanent colors in your hair is by using permanent hair color. You can't lose your permanent hair colors using color enhancing products.

Obviously manufacturers weren't thinking about people like us who like a wide range of colors in their hair! There may be something out on the market soon though. They've thought of everything else to sell us! (I found one, see below) There are so many choices that using feedback or reviews from other people who have tried it first is useful. That really helps you figure out which hair product you should try. Also you may want to try Wen Hair Products. The product is formulated for all hair types and colors.

If you're gonna try and color and take care of your own hair, you really should know how the color chart system works, what the levels really mean, and some examples of the results you'll get by using different ones, etc. You can get all the answers you'll need by simply investing in this low cost 'how to' ebook. It will answer a lot of questions you have! Special Offer!(for a limited time only!) And yes, it is my ebook:o)
