Which Bleach is Better for Golden Blonde Highlights?

by Courtney
(Las Vegas, NV)

I have dark brown hair and want to add golden blonde highlights. I am going to use Kaleidocolors from Sally's but which would be better( blue, violet, neutral, or gold) to get a golden blonde almost champagne color?

Hi Courtney. That's a great question. You can do this several different ways. To answer your question about the kind of bleach you should use, I always stick with bleaches that have a blue base. Why? Because they give you the best and cleanest results, hands down.

When you lift your hair, it goes through the 10 stages of decolorization. My Hair Color Guide has the chart in it for easy reference:o)

One way to do this is to lift your hair to a very light color, (lighter than you want) then add a golden toner to it after you've removed the bleach. (Hint: You'll need to keep your cap on!) You can make your own toner if you know how, or simply use a demi/semi permanent golden blonde color of your choice. If you want a champagne color, use a beige blonde color instead.

Another way not to have to use a toner afterward, is just to keep your eyes on your hair color as it's lifting. As your hair lifts, it will go through a golden blonde stage of decolorization. If you aren't adding too many highlights, just remove the bleach when it reaches the golden stage.

Make sense?

And of course, use a good deep conditioner after you remove bleach. Bleaching your hair opens up the hair cuticle. Deep conditioners help lay down your hair cuticles after you color.
