Where to Place Highlights and Best Colors to Use

Where is the best place to have highlights? Front side of the head, front and middle, or all over? My hair is dark brown and curly. Also my skin tone is tan. Whats the best color highlight for me?

*************

Dark brown hair is vague as there are many shades of dark brown.

Superficial highlights work best for most women, that is, the highlights are done on the surface of the hair and just under your part, from the front to back of your head.

However, if you wear your hair in updo hairstyles a lot, you will need to get more highlights throughout your hair. You won't need that many but a few underneath are nice to have when you pull your hair up.

Anytime you highlight your hair, try to use colors that blend easily with your own hair color and are compatible with your natural hair color shade. If you have golden brown hair, some golden blonde highlights would suit your hair and look good with a tan skin tone. A mousey brown hair color would look best with more stark blonde colors like ash blonde or beige blonde or even platinum blonde.

Of course, you can highlight your hair with other colors. Highlighting is not always about blonde colors only. You might also try a strawberry blonde color or lighter brown shades.
