Weak Hair Tips for Strength
Having weak hair is never a good thing. When your hair is structurally fragile, it tends to break off easily and is nightmarish to attempt styling.
Sometimes, even when hair is handled delicately, hair can still snap off quickly.
In order keep the hair you do have, you will need to strengthen it to make it less susceptible to breakage.
Genetics, medications, illnesses, medical treatments such as chemotherapy, unhealthy eating habits, strong chemical treatments, vitamin deficiencies, over-using hot hair appliances, over-using strong hair products, and the general way you take care of your hair are among the many reasons for your hair to become weak and brittle.
Healthy hair has strong tensile strength. It can stand up to the worst of abuses but still remains generally salubrious. Weakened hair on the other hand, looks damaged, snarls easily and can feel like straw. There is a great difference between the two.
Here are a few ideas about how to resolve weak hair so your hair is weak no more!
Remedies to Strengthen Weak Hair
Use eggs! Egg yolks are rich in fats and proteins, and are naturally moisturizing and strengthening. Egg whites, which contain bacteria-eating enzymes, help remove excess oils. Since eggs are relatively cheap to buy, you can use egg hair treatments for pennies on the dollar.
For All Hair Types
For normal hair, use the entire egg to condition and build weak hair.
For oily hair, use egg whites only to remove excess oils.
For dry hair, use egg yolks only to moisturize.
Use 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is appropriate for your hair type and apply to clean, damp hair. If there isn’t enough egg to coat scalp and hair, get cracking and add more. Leave the egg on your hair for 20 minutes, then rinse with cool/tepid water and then shampoo and condition as normal. Whole egg and egg yolk-only treatments can be applied once a month; egg white-only treatments can be applied every two weeks.
Use protein treatments. If you don’t like the idea of putting slimy eggs in your hair, you can also buy protein hair treatments that help restore the strength of your hair. Since your hair is made of 100% keratin, its no wonder that protein alone can help build your hair back up and repair weak hair! Even if you don’t have weak hair, protein treatments used occasionally, can help retain the tensile strength of hair.
Word of caution:
Hair breakage and weak hair has been linked to using too many protein products on your hair. Your hair also needs moisture to support elasticity. Your hair needs protein for strength and moisture to retain stretchability!
Eat more eggs! Besides smearing eggs on your hair, egg yolks are rich in biotin, which helps with hair growth. Include eggs in your weekly diet or take biotin supplements. Taking Super Biotin everyday ensures that hair remains thick and full!
Use a soft bristle natural hair brush on dry hair and using a WIDE toothed comb, and comb wet hair.
Use leave in detangler sprays to help get rid of knots or snarls.

Avoid harsh chemical products and hot appliances.
Chemical services (like hair coloring, perming, and rebonding and hot appliances like hot irons and hair dryers, can degrade the strength of your hair and cause weak hair. They can also cause your hair to become overly dry, which also leads to hair breakage.
If you can, allow your hair to air-dry and/or use leave in conditioners before you blow dry your hair. When using blow dryers, keep direct heat off of your hair. Move the dryer around a lot to keep direct heat off any one section of your hair. Use the cool button as often as you can, especially after you finish using heat. This closes the cuticle of your hair strands, which makes it less susceptible to damage.

When hair is weak, it can cause split hair ends quickly. TLC is needed on the ends of your hair especially, since your hair ends get the most abuse. If your hair is breaking off near the scalp, it’s a bad sign! You may have an underlying illness, you’re not getting the right nutrients in your diet, or you’ve used too many strong chemicals or hot appliances. You need emergency hair repair. Use small circular motions with your fingertips when you massage your scalp. Add beneficial oils to help increase massage effectiveness. Using too many products that contain alcohol or other drying ingredients, can cause weak hair and brittleness over time. Some medications can interfere with hair growth and retard the growth cycle. Sometimes, after losing your hair or having bald spots, the hair that grows in can be weak or even a different hair texture. This is quite normal but can be deterring. Over time, as you become healthier and get over certain illnesses or conditions, or you have better control over your condition, your hair may begin to revert back to its normal growth cycle and thus normal hair texture. Give it some time. Most conditions happen over a lifetime so they’re not going to rectify themselves overnight. Sudden trauma or heavy amounts of stress can interrupt the growth cycle and cause hair to become weak during this period of time. After stress levels have diminished, hair resumes its normal growth cycle. (most of the time) This may show up later when your hair is growing out and you notice that certain sections of your hair are prone to breakage. (The breakage will be linear.) As your hair grows out, take great care of your hair and make sure you give it extra moisture and protein so the breakage doesn’t lead to split ends. As hair keeps growing, this will not be as much of a problem, as long as you keep bolstering your hair’s strength.
Weak hair is a problem but it’s not a condition where there is no hope. You just have to amend your hair routine to include products or techniques that help strengthen your hair.
