Using Hair Color On Bleached Hair Ends

Terrible photo.... but the best i could find.

I have naturally light brown hair, but I've previously bleached the bottom layer, and have some roots (I don't know if that matters...) but, I would like to dye all of my hair dark brown.

I'm wondering if I should leave this to a professional, or if I am able to do it at home. I'm considering using Garnier HerbaShine shade 400. And also if you know if this product is any good? Or if you would suggest something else?

Although boxed colors have improved over the years, they are still relatively undependable. To find out more about Herbashine products, I suggest that you read reviews about the products. Being a professional, I mix my own professional colors at home, so I don't know a lot about boxed colors at all.

The bleached hair on your hair ends, is going to be the problem. Bleached hair grabs color because it is very porous. To keep the color even, apply the color to the unbleached hair first, then in the last 10 minutes of color application, apply the color to the bleached ends of your hair. You may even want to water down the color mixture a small amount, so that the color doesn't grab as much.

Before you rinse the color from your hair, squeeze a small strand of hair at your ends to make sure the color has had time to set. If not, leave the color on a little longer and test your ends again, before you rinse out the color.

You also want to use a good deep conditioning treatment on your hair ends especially before you color. This will help even out the porosity of your hair and help 'fill in' any voids in moisture, giving the hair color something to adhere to.
