I am having a hard time getting the tangles out of my hair when it's wet and when its dry.
Professional Hair Care Tips - There are many ways to untangle hair. First off, don't brush wet hair. Hair is most susceptible to stretching and breakage when its wet. If you want to get the tangles out in the shower, then use a wide toothed comb instead after you've used a good detangling conditioner.
If you like to comb it out after the shower, here's what to do:
Always work on combing your hair out from the bottom up. Comb out the ends first, the middle section next, then work your way up to the top of your hair. You can separate your hair into sections and work on one section at a time, until all sections are thoroughly combed through. Then combine all sections and comb though it again. If you're gentle about it, brushing is also OK, but it really depends on which brush you use.
I suggest you use a conditioner, like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle or any other conditioner that advertises its 'detangling' ability. (Most conditioners help detangle anyway.) Just don't rinse them out all the way in the shower. Leaving a little bit on, helps to protect your hair. After you condition, your hair should not be squeaky clean.
Curly hair has a tendency to tangle up more than straight hair. Extremely dry hair can also cause more knots than moisturized hair. For that reason, moisturize your hair every chance you get. You'll have a lot fewer knots and your hair will look sleek and silky.
Hair can also get tangles when you sleep at night. To solve this, get a satin pillow case and/or use a hair tie and keep your hair up on top of your head, Pebbles style. That will keep your hair from tangling up so badly overnight.
Detanglers are great to take with you when you go swimming in the summer. (Pools, ocean, lakes, streams...) Just take a detangler with you whenever you are going to be in the water. When you get out of the water, spray some on your hair and comb out your hair. Each time you go back in swimming, the tangles come right out afterward. Of course, they also work great for home use too.
