ULTA Salon

I went in for a color, highlights, and cut at ULTA Salon in Cedar Rapids, IA. The stylist I got was Shirley. Well, Shirley told me umpteen times during my more than 3 hours there that "mature women" like me did not look good with darker hair because it washes out our faces and we "need light to help our skin look brighter"
She proceeded to color my hair a lighter color than I have had in a LONG time. Shirley also said I only need a few highlights, I told her I like a lot of highlights in my hair but she kept insisting I only needed a few. All evening Shirley kept telling me she was a "master stylist" and my previous stylist was not a "master stylist" and that she (Shirley) knew much more about what was a good cut, color, etc for me and she also told me she was going to razor my hair.
I told her I don't like a razor used on my hair, I like the thinning scissors/regular scissors, Shirley kept saying" oh, you've just had bad haircuts with razors but I am a master at razor cutting" she then proceeded to start cutting my hair with a razor!
I finally told her "Shirley put the razor down and use scissors on my hair."
During the shampoo, Shirley said "Oh, I forgot to turn on the hair dryer" and left me with my head in the sink, and the water spraying all over me.
During the course of the evening I learned about Shirleys:
High blood pressure
High cholestetol
Her bad reaction to cholesterol medication
Having to find a new physician and how hard that was for her very over weight daughter and her daughters ex-husband who is unmedicated bi-polar because he is a recovering drug addict.
When Shirley was finally done (after more than 3 hours), she said, "don't you just love it?" I said "not really, but I'll have to get used to it" Shirley said "well, your hair looks lighter than it is because you have dark eyebrows. I tell you what, stylists can't do this, but if you want to come in sometime I'll mix up a little hair color and you can use a Q Tip and put it on your eyebrows then your hair will match your eyebrows and the color won't look so light!"
I called the manager Wendy the next day and Wendy was very kind but I told Wendy I don't know if I'll lever come back to ULTA.

Geez, that sounds like a nightmare! Sorry you had to experience this! It amazes me how many stylists don't know when enough's enough! I detest people that go on and on about nothing and tell you all of their problems! One reason women love to go to salon's, is to relax a little. Sounds like you did anything but relax! Fingers crossed for next time, right? Its also a good reason to find a good stylist and stick with them! I also hope you won't go back to this salon, for your own piece of mind!
