Too Dark Hair Lowlights in Blonde Hair

I had lowlights put in my very blonde hair and they have made my hair too dark, and almost grey looking. I am going to put in highlights and am wondering if it would be best to use a cap or to brush them on with a mascara wand instead?

That's a really good question.
On the one hand, using an exact method (mascara wand, which btw I hadn't heard of using before), you can target the areas you want to lift. This will be time consuming however.
On the other hand, using a cap will be much faster and give you random highlights that will look natural. It is however, hard to target the gray areas with a cap. Both methods have their own advantages and disadvantages.
It might serve you well to try both methods. Do a few highlights using each method and then decide which way worked the best for you and if you want more highlights.
You can also try and eliminate some of the gray hair color by shampooing your hair a lot. Dark colors fade over time and shampooing your hair more than normal will help remove some of it. Be sure however, to condition well afterward to keep your hair properly moisturized.
One product that comes to mind that might help your hair before you add highlights, is
John Frieda Go Blonder. From the reviews, it just might help!
