Tips to Lose Weight
You are What You Drink!
It's incredible how many extra calories are in the sodas, juices, and other sweetened drinks. Cutting them out completely can save you 360 calories or more each day. It is best to limit diet sodas too, as the artificial sweeteners are not good for you and they tend to make some people hungry. Instead drink a lot of water. Switch from whole to nonfat or low fat milk or soy milk.
Help!
Helping other people is also one of the best tips to lose weight I know. When you help other people, you focus less on food and less on whats wrong with you. Making other people feel good is a great way to make you feel good about who you are. Help an elderly person reach something in the store, help a child reach a goal, or just help a good friend with a project. When you get your mind focused on other people, you take the focus off of yourself and food!
Move It!
You may find that you don't need to give up calories as much if you will just get off your behind and move. Don’t get stuck because you think you’ll have to take an aerobics class. Instead try a variety of activities until you find ones you like. Find ways to fit activity into your day by jogging up and down the stairs a couple of times before your morning shower or taking a brisk walk around the block. Do anything that gets you moving and your heart beating. Your goal should be to work up to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at least 3 to 5 times a week It’s fine to start out slowly. Rome was not built in a day. Activities help you avoid becoming a TV, video game, or Internet junkie!
Small Changes
Drastic changes are much harder to stick with than small changes. Try reducing the size of the portions you eat and giving up regular soda for a week. Once you have that down, start gradually introducing healthier foods and exercise into your life.
Fill Er Up
Lots of people eat when they're bored, lonely, or stressed and keep eating long after they're full. This is a totally bad habit and is generally called emotional eating. It always make sense to eat slowly because it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to recognize how much is in your stomach. Sometimes taking a break before going for seconds can keep you from eating more. Avoid eating when you feel upset or bored. Try to focus on other things instead. Many people find it's helpful to keep a diary or a food journal of what they eat and when. Reviewing their diary later can help them identify the emotions they have when they overeat or when they have unhealthy habits.
Eat Less More!
Many people find that eating a couple of small snacks throughout the day helps them to make healthy choices at meals. Stick a couple of healthy snacks (carrot sticks, a low fat granola bar, popcorn, celery sticks, dry cereal, pretzels, or a piece of fruit) in your pocketbook or briefcase so that you can have one or two snacks during the day. Adding healthy snacks to your daily consumption and eating smaller portions when you sit down to eat can help you to cut calories without feeling deprived.
High Five
Trash the junk food and buy lots of fruits and vegetables! Five or more servings of fruits and veggies aren't just a good idea to help you lose weight. They’ll help keep your heart and the rest of your body healthy. Other tips to lose weight for eating well: exchange white bread for whole-wheat; drink lots of water, and make sure you eat a healthy breakfast. Don't skip over breakfast. Having low fat cereal and milk and a piece of fruit is a much better idea than inhaling a muffin as you run out the door or eating no breakfast at all!
Avoid Prepared Foods
We all need a variety of foods to stay healthy. Prepared foods are chunked full of artificial colors and preservatives, not to even mention the high sodium content and other additives. Prepared foods are linked to Cancer and other diseases, as the ingredients are toxic to your body. Eat healthy natural foods that keep you healthy naturally.
Don't Banish Your Best Friend
Making some foods tabu or forbidden is sure to make you want them even more. Besides, you need to have some fat in your diet to stay healthy, so giving up all fatty foods all the time isn't a good idea anyway. The key to long-term success is making healthy choices most of the time. If you want a piece of cake at a party, go for it! But munch on the carrots rather than the chips to balance it out later in the evening.
Slip Ups
If you splurge on something, don’t punish yourself. Be forgiving and realize it was a slip up. If you find yourself overindulging, drink some water, brush your teeth, and move on. Everyone who's ever tried to lose weight has found it challenging. When you slip up, the best idea is to get right back on track and don't look back. Avoid telling yourself that you'll get back on track tomorrow or next week or after New Year's. Start today.
