Women have been batting their eyelashes at men to attract attention since time began. It’s a less assuming way to flirt with a guy without being overly aggressive. However, if your lashes aren’t as gorgeous as you want them to be, there are many ideas you can try! Sparse lashes are a drag while full lashes are alluring and sensual.
How to Get Longer, Thicker Lashes
Vaseline is downright cheap to use and application is a breeze! It’s one of the easiest ways to make lashes grow longer and thicker! Apply it to the skin that surrounds your lashes, along the lash lines, and on lashes before bedtime each night.
Note: Using Vaseline regularly is fine but you should know that it actually blocks moisture from penetrating/absorbing into your skin. For that reason, it’s best to use a nourishing facial serum or lotion first (that suit's your skin type), before using Vaseline.
Also, when you arise in the morning, if you use too much Vaseline, your eyes may feel a bit glued together. This is easily remedied by rinsing your face with warm water and gently wiping the skin around your eyes.
Lash Accelerating Serums
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Serum or Lilash Serum may be able to help if you want fuller, thicker lashes! The serums are applied using a wand that looks like a lip gloss applicator. (You can substitute using a clean mascara wand though.) Apply to lashes nightly and wash off in the morning. Results vary but it typically takes about a month to note changes.

Everyone’s seen the advertisements on various mascara products that promise you longer, thicker lashes! However, there’s an easier option to get thicker lashes. Simply apply one or two coats of clear mascara first, allow to completely dry, then apply your favorite mascara over the clear. For the thickest lashes, apply two coats of a dark colored mascara, like brown or black.
One way to make lashes appear fuller, is to use your regular mascara as usual but then add a different color to the tips of the lashes only. For example, apply black mascara as you regularly do. Then add blue mascara to the very ends/tips of your lashes only. The color contrast can make your eyes pop, bring out your eye color, and make lashes look scrumptious!
Apply Two Coats
Many women know to apply more than one coat of mascara to make lashes thicker. However, you can also apply mascara to both the top of lashes, then underneath lashes also. Brush lashes down to apply to underneath side of lashes and brush up to apply to the top side of lashes. Do this for both top and bottom lashes for maximum results.
One of the oldest and most popular alternatives for softer, thicker lashes, cold pressed castor oil is a natural way to increase lash growth and fullness. Oils are rich in vitamins and emoillents, which help prevent hair breakage. Simply apply a light coat to lashes before bed using a Q-Tip or fingertips. You can also use it on sparse eyebrows to help them grow thicker.
Alternately, you can use olive oil or vitamin E oil, which have many of the same qualities (minerals and vitamins) as castor oil.
Translucent Loose Powder
Curl your lashes first using a eyelash curler. You can make curlers more effective by heating them up a little bit with your blow dryer. Test the curler on the back of your hand first though, to ensure you aren’t going to burn the precious skin on your eyelids!
After curling, apply one coat of your favorite mascara. Black is typically the best color to use that showcases longer lashes.
Use a medium sized makeup brush and apply a light dusting of translucent loose powder to lashes on both sides of your lashes. Be careful not to get powder in your eyes. It will make your eyes red and will not be a pretty sight!
Apply another coat of mascara to both sides of lashes; on top of lashes and underneath lashes. Carefully separate lashes with your lash brush or clean fingernails. Allow mascara to dry thoroughly.
Did you know it’s good advice to brush lashes regularly? If you don’t have an eyelash brush, you need to add it to your brush collection. Brushing eyelashes stimulates blood circulation, which in turn promotes hair growth! It also help get rid of loose lashes that are ready to fall out. (This also prevents getting an eyelash in your eye, which can hurt! Ouch!)
One of the fastest ways to get fuller thicker lashes is to just use false eyelashes. You can buy the lash strips or individual lashes to replace any missing lashes. There are many different styles to choose from but the application can be tricky. Find out how to apply false lashes here:
Latisse is a medication for eyelash growth but you must have a prescription for it. The active ingredient is called Lumigan. Originally, it was developed to treat glaucoma but doctors noticed that their patients had significant eyelash growth as a side effect of the drug.
The product is applied along the upper lash line each night, which is then transferred to the bottom lashes via blinking. The cost is around $120 for a one month supply and it can take up to 6 months to notice visible results.
Jenny McCarthy and Mandy Moore allegedly use Latisse, while Brooke Shields, Claire Danes, and Christina Hendricks are spokes-women for the drug.
The drawbacks? In some people, it can darken the pigment of the skin along lash lines and it can potentially change green or blue eye pigments to brown. Other negative side effects can include (but are not limited to) bacterial eye infections, blurry vision, redness, swelling, allergic reactions, and excessive hair growth outside the treatment area.
