If you are presently feeling down and blue, you need to know the symptoms of depression. Whats going on around us in the world today is certainly a consideration when it comes to depression. People are losing their houses and jobs, financially burdened, and barely able to squeak by on their present income. Thoughts of suicide run prevalent in a world that seems to have lost it's security overnight.

Everyone has some ups and downs. After all, sadness is a natural part of life occasionally. However, for the person who is depressed, the normal stresses of everyday life can exacerbate their desire for isolation. The more they're alone, the worse their depression can get! Because of feelings of sadness and low energy levels, people with depression may also pull away from those around them or from activities they once enjoyed. Those people that were generally very outgoing and fun to be around, may retreat inwardly and not smile as much. They want to be left alone and stay out of the limelight.

Depression is more than occasionally feeling blue, sad, or down in the dumps. It is a powerful illness that can stem from a number of various stresses. Extreme mood swings, crying for no apparent reason, and isolation are just some of the symptoms of depression.

Depression can be highly affected by neurotransmitters in the brain. When neurotransmitter signals are low, depression happens. Most medications on the market today, target those neurotransmitters to elevate them and balance them out. They can help a depressed person if the medication is targeted towards their specific needs.

Many times however, it may take several tries to find the right one for you. Side effects are another consideration when you investigate the various types. For some people, depression can be intense and occur in bouts that last for weeks at a time. For others, depression can be less severe but can linger at low levels for many years.

Other symptoms of depression can cause physical ailments. Some people have an upset stomach, loss of appetite, weight gain or weight loss, headaches, and/or sleeping problems when they're depressed.
