Get a Great Sun Tan the
Anti Aging Way

If you want to preserve your gorgeous skin don’t go out into the sun without using sun protection first.

This becomes especially true as we grow older but is rather important when we're young too. That's when most of the real sun damage can occur!

Your skin needs LOTS of moisture to maintain it's elasticity. Without proper hydration, your skin ages quickly. Sunlight depletes the moisture in your skin, so the easiest way to preserve it is to use moisturizers and sunblock! Lotions create moisture while sunblock restricts the sun from drying out your skin.

The Safe Way to a Great Sun Tan

If you don’t want to use a tanning bed, (which are totally unsafe), then use a sunless tanning lotion such as Jergen's Natural Glow. Sunless tanners are inexpensive at any super store but very effective. There are a lot of choices when you look for a tanning lotion. Neutrogena, L'Oreal, Banana Boat, and many others offer products that work very well and are within your budget. You don't need to buy an expensive brand to get a great tan anymore.

There are very good reviews about L'Oreal Sublime Self Tanning Lotion. One of my girlfriends tried it and loves it. I haven't tried it yet but I plan too! Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer has been a favorite for a long time. So check them out, if you like a good safe tan.

Apply a good body lotion first though, before using a tanning lotion. This will help prevent the tanner from streaking.

Most vitamin E body lotions are a great inexpensive way to moisturize your body. Your lotion should contain some vitamins and nutrients and should absorb quickly into your skin. Another perk with a good vitamin lotion is that is shouldn't feel sticky after application! Tugging clothes on after moisturizing is always a drag!

(If you have dry skin, shea butter lotions work best!)

Use your lotion first, then apply your tanning lotion on top. It really makes a huge difference, and gives you a great healthy looking sun tan. You can do this year round too. There is nothing more attractive than having a great suntan in the winter too! (Everyone will think you've been on vacation!)

There are several 'Tanning Levels' to choose from.

Light, Medium, and Dark.

Early in the season you should use a light to medium tanning lotion. If you're unsure which one to choose, a medium lotion is a good choice because it makes a difference but not a dramatic difference that builds over time.

When it comes to tanning, gradual changes are the best. It will take just a few days and you'll see a big difference. You can use them anytime of the day or night too. They're even safe to use one on your face. Of course they make sunless lotions that are specifically made for your face like Neutrogena Build-A-Tan for Faces. Any sunless lotion application gives you a good base tan.

Tanning lotions bring melanin to the surface. (What makes you look tan.) The melanin in turn, helps protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's rays. This really helps prevent you from getting burned the first time you're exposed to the sun.

Just be sure to apply lots of sunblock as the weather gets warmer, days get longer, and the rays from the sun become harsher and even more dangerous.

You will get tan through sunblock! I have used one every year for a long time, (I use a spf45), and still always have a nice tan:o) You should always use an SPF of 15 or higher. Its also good to find blocks that are a broad spectrum in them. Broad spectrum sunblocks like Philosophy Shelter Sunscreen blocks out both UVA and UVB rays. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Mist is a fine mist that makes it very easy to apply sunblock and be safe in the sun.

Anthelios is a European total sunblock that you can now buy in the US. Ombrelle by Loreal has the ingredient Parsol and is also one of the newest types of sunblock available. It works extremely well to totally block the sun.

Another danger of overexposure to the sun is the dangerous Melanoma Skin Cancer. This is very serious! Some people attribute it to sun exposure but some don't. Follow these healthy guidelines and you'll prevent your skin from aging as much. If you've ever seen someone who goes out into the sun on a regular basis without protection, you know how much the sun can age your skin. Repeated sun exposure is one way to totally make you look like an old hag. Don't risk it. Use products that are safe and guard your precious skin.
