Sudden Oily Hair

by Kristen
(Roxbury, NJ)

I have thin, blonde, long hair. A few months ago, my hair was wonderful. It could go a few days without looking (or feeling) greasy. I could do anything with it.

All of a sudden it got really dry and like old looking. I got a haircut, and it looked great for about a day, then it just got really greasy! Now it gets greasy after I am finished styling my hair.

I tried changing shampoos, even using Head and Shoulders for oily hair. I am just starting to use a tea tree oil shampoo that was recommended to me by a hairdresser at ULTA. I am desperate for help to get my hair back to normal.

I don't use any hair products, except for the past few days, a dry shampoo to help the oil, but it doesn't help. It makes my hair staticy and then goes back to greasy within minutes.

I beg for some help! I am going to make a hair appointment for another hair trim, but I am at a dead end and need help.

**************

It would be interesting to know your age. It sounds like you've got a case of overactive hormones. Unfortunately, until they calm down, you'll have to deal with your oily hair.

Sometimes, overactive sebaceous glands are a sign of dry scalp. Products for oily hair deplete available oils on your scalp, and that might signal your sebaceous glands to produce more oils.

If you see signs of a dry scalp, (light flaking, tightness, or just dryness) try products for dry hair or dry scalp instead.

You must give the products you try a chance to work though. Using them once or twice isn't going to give you any concrete answers. You must use them at least a week or longer to know if they're effective.
