Straw Like Hair

So recently I went to a salon to get a haircut. I am a 29 yo male with short hair, although my hair had grown for a few months without a cut. While shampooing my hair, the hairdresser asked, "What shampoo have you been using?" I laughed, because I knew that meant he did not like what he was feeling.
He told me any shampoo you can buy at a supermarket is filled with chemicals that strip your hair of protein and oils. So I asked him what I should buy instead. He suggested this oil-based shampoo from a Canadian company called Moroccan Oil. I also decided to stop shampooing my hair every day, and instead shampoo every other day to try to maintain natural oil and moisture.
So for the first week of doing this, my hair felt absolutely amazing! I was having friends feel my hair, as it had never felt so healthy. But guess what? 10 days later, the effect was completely gone, and I feel like my hair has reverted back to the same old hay stack. What gives? I've also been using Paul Mitchell's leave-in conditioner to try to maintain moisture. Thanks for your advice :)

Sometimes, products like shampoos, can build up on your hair, which can make your hair look and feel dull or dry. You might need to clarify your hair and be open to switching around the products you use. Everyone should have at least two shampoos that you trade off regularly. (You can buy
clarifying shampoos or simply use tea tree oil shampoos.)
First, clarify your hair, then start switching off shampoos. You only need to clarify your hair every couple of months, or when your hair starts looking and feeling straw like.
Reduce the amount of heat you put on your hair. If you blow dry your hair, switch to the cool setting instead.
Although salon products are touted to be the best, they sometimes contain the same drying
chemical ingredients you find in hair products in the grocery store.
Try an
organic shampoo instead. These have natural botanical ingredients that help moisturize your hair.
You may also be deficient in certain vitamins you need for your hair.
Omega 3 oils and
hair vitamins may help improve your
hair's texture.
Your hair is short so it's alright to shampoo everyday. However, if your dry hair still persists, try shampooing less often, like every three or four days.
Be sure too, to
drink ample water. If you aren't getting enough moisture in your body, your
hair and
skin will suffer.
