Steps to go from Blonde Hair to Red Hair

RIHANNA'S HAIRCOLOR

RIHANNA'S HAIRCOLOR

HELLO, I'M A NEW STYLIST. I HAVE A CLIENT WHO WANTS TO GO FROM BEING A LEVEL 9 COOL BLOND, TO A DARK RED. MY QUESTION IS, WHAT LEVEL SHOULD I USE TO GET HER TO THE DESIRED COLOR RED IN THE PIC THAT I HAVE ATTACHED? MY BIGGEST FEAR IS THE RED WON'T DEPOSIT DARK ENOUGH AND IT WILL COME OUT PINK-ISH LOOKING. WOULD YOU SAY THAT THE HAIRCOLOR IN THE PIC IS A VIOLET BASE? HOPE THIS IS DESCRIPTIVE ENOUGH! THANKS!

You'll need to do strand tests on your client (underneath) to ensure that the color you apply is the right color and the right level.

It looks like the red color in the photo is about a level 4 or 5 but its really hard to be exact with just a picture. Its also hard to say if the color has a violet base.

Blonde color is very porous and will grab any color you apply, so be aware of that. You might want to use a filler on your clients hair before you start.

My best advice is to talk to the other hairdressers you work with and ask for their advice. They have a birds eye view of your clients hair and the desired color level. Plus they know the color choices you have available to you in the salon where you work.

you deffinitly need to fill it with a red violet based color before putting any color on that head. if you dont then the red color will fade extremely fast. i would say it has some violet in it, but not much. i would also put your client under heat while processing. look for a 4ir(intense red. only use 10 volume developer. this i your best bet
