Q) - I need a split end treatment for my hair. My hair is down to my butt and I have TONS of ends that are in bad shape, I mean a lot of them.
Some are at the very top, some are midway, and millions at the bottom. I have trimmed my hair but they are still there. When I read stuff like "Your split ends will go all the way up to your scalp" I sometimes start crying even when I know that it IS true. I can never keep my hair short, because it makes me look horrible and plus in my religion (Hindu) women keep their hair long.
I'm just really confused and frustrated with everything and really stressed. Could you please give me some tips? I got them from straightening my hair everyday (I did 2 years ago) and I stopped. Before that I never had split ends. And I know it is all my fault and now I shouldn't be complaining, but when I did start straightening my hair 2 years ago, I had no clue or idea about them.
Professional Hair Care Tips - Unfortunately there is no way to totally repair split ends. There are a few things you can do to help them however! Keep your ends trimmed even if it means cutting off a few inches, especially since you said you have so many on your hair ends. You can learn how to trim your own hair by watching my video. You will still have long hair!
Other things you can do are to buy products that help lay down your hair cuticle and provide moisture for your hair. You have really dry hair right now from using your straightening iron so much for the past few years.
Deep conditioners like hot oil treatments, glazes (dry method please!), smoothing conditioners, and leave in conditioners help a lot. Protein treatments help add keratin (protein) back to your hair but using them alone would only dry your hair out more. If you think your hair needs rebuilding, only use protein treatments with moisture. You simply cannot repair split ends once they happen but you can do things to make them less noticeable.
Also, keep heat away from your hair! You may have used your hot iron on a heat setting that was too high for your hair. Let your hair dry naturally and blow dry it down from the top of your head if you want it to lay down. That won't hurt your hair if you don't do it too often. Only wash your hair every few days to keep natural oils locked in your hair. When you brush your hair, brush it out gently when it's dry and comb through it with a wide toothed comb when it's wet.
You might try split end repair treatments. (see below) Hair products have come a long way and these might help bond your frayed ends back together. but I don't know if you can get them overseas. I don't believe that they can mend them but they do appear to have helped quite a few people so far.
Another thing you can do is to remember to take your B vitamins. They are called the Beauty Vitamins and are essential to your hair, especially Biotin, which is part of the B family. Super Biotin is the 'creme de la creme' of Biotin.
