Q) - I want smooth straight hair, with a little volume, but not too straight which gives a flat pin straight type of hair.
I am interested in buying a sedu hair straightening iron. My hair is not too thin, not too thick but dry ends. I would like to know how much heat should be applied to my hair to achieve this? Thank you!
Professional Hair Care Tips - From what I understand, you want smooth straight hair but not too flat. I would suggest that you use the low heat setting on your straightening iron. The higher the heat, the straighter and flatter your hair will be and the more damage you may do to your hair. If the setting you choose is too low, then raise the heat a small amount. Of course, be very careful of your ends. Use the lowest setting on them!
You can improve your dry ends by using leave in conditioners on them. Infusium is a good one to choose, but there are many others that work well too. These types of conditioners will help keep moisture in your dry ends. Hopefully the Sedu iron will have a heat setting controller on it so you can set the amount of heat you want. You might also want to try smoothing shampoos and smoothing conditioners. They are a great inexpensive way to smooth your hair cuticle, which helps your hair lay down. Straightening conditioners are also a viable alternative. These leave a protective coating on your hair, which like leave in conditioners, adds weight. The more weight your hair has, the straighter it will be.
You can also achieve smooth straight hair, by just using your blow dryer. Simply blow dry your hair when it's still damp, and brush your hair gently from roots to ends, after you comb out any knots. Do this in sections. Use high heat and hold your dryer above your head and aim the air flow direction down. Nano or Ion blow dryers will also cut down on the amount of frizz you have and help give you smooth straight hair.
Of course, the best way to get rid of dry ends is to get them trimmed. If you can't afford to go to the hairdresser, you can trim them yourself using this method. Trim with caution however. Once you take hair off, you can't put it back! Its always better to take too little than too much!
