Do you like to sleep naked? Statistics show that most people do at some time or another! The real question is, 'are you really sleeping'? Are you getting enough? Sleep??? We either don't get enough, which is the majority of us, or we get too much.
No one really get's enough... Sleep that is! Sleeplessness is more a sign of the times than anything else. It sure is one of my favorite pass-times! Some people claim that those who sleep through their life, are missing out on life; that life is meant to be lived. That may be true to some extent but we all need sleep! It's questionable how much you need though. Sleep is a time to be peaceful. Sleep is good for you, right?
The medical community suggests that if you get up early during the week, that you should also get up early on the weekends and keep to your schedule. Disrupting sleep patterns can cause physiological and physical problems. We've all heard this!
Does this really make sense though? If you have a hard time getting up on the weekend, doesn't it makes more sense to sleep in and listen to your body and give it what it needs? Your own body knows you better than your doctor, doesn't it?
People worldwide suffer from sleep deprivation. Many have no problem getting up on weekends but others sleep in to catch up on sleep. Researchers and doctors tell you there is no way you can 'catch up' on it, but if your body tells you that it's tired, perhaps you should listen!
Everyone needs adequate sleep though! Think about your pets. Most pets sleep half of the day at least. Why? They don't have jobs. They don't have to fix dinner and go grocery shopping. Hey, if its good for them, its good for us, right? (They sleep naked all the time too!) Babies also sleep a lot too!
Lack of good sound sleep can lead to a loss of production at work, sickness, illness, accidents, lowered immunity, Cancer, and a whole realm of other problems. A 2001 study suggested that sleep deprivation may be linked to more serious diseases, such as heart disease and mental illnesses, such as psychosis and bipolar disorder. Lack of sleep has also been linked to weight gain!
The physical discomfort of obesity and other related problems such as sleep apnea, further reduce an individual's chances of getting a good night's sleep. Sleep deprivation can also have some of the same hazardous effects as a feeling of being drunk. Many fatal accidents happen because of people driving when they are too sleepy to drive.
We all live in such a fast paced world that it's sometimes hard to fit in sleep! As much as we all might love to sleep, most people's priorities are work and family! Its sad to say but some people enjoy getting sick occasionally, just so they'll be able to rest and finally get some real sleep. What wakes you up and gets you moving is the fact that you know you are getting behind on work! Getting back to work then becomes the priority, so sleep loses the battle yet again! We are all rats in a maze of life!
We go to sleep so we can go back to work so we can get back to sleep so we can go back to work so we can get up to work so we can go back to sleep so we can go back to work so we can get back to sleep so we can go back to work so we can get up to work so we can go back to sleep...
It's the same redundant pattern that's repeated over and over again. There is no escape from the rat race. Sleep is however, the one thing you shouldn't cut back on and you can't get away with! If you want to stay youthful, you just can’t afford NOT to get proper sleep!
Talk about aging! Lack of sleep will age you as much as those who have addictions to dangerous lifestyle choices. When you are sleeping, your body has time to heal. Without it, your body constantly stays in a state of unrest and has a very hard time healing. Even simple cuts and scrapes can take longer to heal without adequate sleep! (That's why it was originally called 'Beauty Sleep'!)
Many more women have a hard time sleeping during menopause because of night sweats. It really helps if you sleep naked when you get overheated! When you don't have layers of clothes on, (plus your blankets and sheets), the coolness of the bed can really lower your body temperature. Stand up fans also help cool you down and make it even more comfortable to sleep naked. I got in the habit of sleeping without clothes when I started going through menopause and I suggest you try it too!
However, it won't matter if you like to sleep naked or not! If you don't get enough sleep, then you will suffer the consequences eventually. Thankfully, there are some things that will help you sleep better at night (on the next page!)
