Shiny hair is something every woman wants to have. However, with all the styling products on the market, its easy to understand how our hair can become dull, limp, or lifeless from time to time. Products can build up on your hair and that makes for dull, dry hair.
There are many ways to add more light refraction in your hair to make it look shinier. Everyone wants to have beautiful, silky hair, however different hair textures have different needs. You must use different ingredients for different hair types to make it shine. Healthy, gleaming hair enhances everyone’s beauty!
When your hair is shiny, the cuticle of your hair is laying down. If the cuticle of your hair is up, your hair looks frizzy and unhealthy and dull.
For all types of hair, use a can of beer as a final rinse. (any brand)
When your hair dries, you won’t be able to smell the beer but your hair will be oh so shiny and it will feel so soft!
- Fine Hair: Use a shampoo with wheat proteins and polymers. These ingredients coat the hair shaft making it look and feel thicker. Using spray volumizers can really add texture to your hair too. These are light enough and will deposit a light mist of shine in the form of droplets without wilting your hair. - Normal Hair: Use a shampoo that has silk amino acids in it. These amino acids soften and repair hair structure. Lecithin also restores hair texture. To add shine, use gels and creams like the ones by John Frieda. First apply the product on your palm, rub your hands together and tap it gently onto dry hair. (for best results) - Thick and Coarse Hair: Use pomades they will not only make your hair shiny but will moisturize your hair as well. Pomades are like waxes and molding muds. They provide very strong control and hold, helping to maintain a sculpted style or reduce frizz. They work especially well on coarse, curly hair. Use these products sparingly as a little goes a long way. Place a dab in your hand, rub your hands together to warm up and distribute the product and then apply.
More Tips For Shiny Hair
- Use heat-activated shampoo's. They really help add shine. - Don’t use a lot of styling products as they can dull the hair. - Use a Strawberry Hair Mask to improve shine: Mash eight strawberries with one tablespoon mayonnaise or olive oil. Massage into washed but damp hair. Cover hair with a shower cap and then a warm towel or sit in a warm place like beside the fire or in the sun. Rinse the mask out of your hair, then shampoo and condition as usual. This mask will give your hair a deep, rich gloss. If you don't have time to make your own you can buy hair mask. Some are more expensive to buy but work great, like Philosophy Age Defying Conditioning Mask and some are less expensive but don't work quite as well like Neutrogena Triple Moisture Recovery Hair Mask. I have used both and each one has its own good points. The best suggestion is to go by how dry your hair really is. If it's very dry, then you may have to buy something that costs more but works better. If your hair is only minimally dry, you can use the less expensive brand, no problems.
- Increase the shine in your hair by giving your hair a cool blast of cool air using your dryer, to seal the cuticle after its completely dry. If cuticles are ragged then you will not have shiny hair. - For blonde hair color's, add a few tablespoons of lemon juice in a cup of water, then pour it over your hair as a final rinse. - For brown and red hair colors, add a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water, then pour it over your hair as a final rinse. - For all types of hair, use a can of beer as a final rinse. (any brand) When your hair dries, you won’t be able to smell the beer but your hair will be oh so shiny! - Mix one teaspoon of honey into 4 cups of warm water. After shampooing, pour the mixture through your hair, but do not rinse. Dry as normal. - Add blonde highlights around your face especially, and throughout the hair can make it look shinier. Just don’t over do them. - Hot Oil Treatments work well. - Heated curlers, curling/straight irons can all make your hair look shinier. - After you shampoo and condition, use a final rinse with a beer. (any brand will do!) - Rinse your hair with cold water to enhance shine. Rinsing with cold water will close the cuticle which makes it look shiny.
- Use a glaze on your hair in the same way normal colors are applied. Glazes are available in a clear formula that won’t add color to your hair, or in color formula’s that will enhance your color and give you shine at the same time. These treatments add microscopic sized color pigment molecules to the hair shaft that would make your hair shine when light is refracted. John Frieda has a wonderful glaze that has been tested and is highly recommendable. Each bottle gives you lots of bang for your bucks! You can find shades from Platinum to Champagne Colors or Deep Rich Reds or Lush Dark Browns and more! - If your hair looks dull, you may have product build up on your hair. I suggest that you use a clarifying shampoo to help strip the build up off your hair. Tea Tree Oil Shampoo or Jojoba oil shampoos work great. They can be found at any retail store. Once you strip the build up, go back to your normal conditioning products. - The simplest way to have shiny hair, hands down, is deep conditioners and finishing cremes. Use products like John Frieda Light Reflecting Conditioner and John Frieda Satin Shine Finishing Creme for best results. His products work extremely well and are value priced. Leave in conditioners like Infusium Leave In Conditioner are convenient to use. They enhance your hair's ability to shine. - Vitamin E is essential for your hair. Include brown rice, nuts, wheat germ and leafy green vegetables in your diet. - Knox gelatin can help your nails but did you know it also helps your hair? Use gelatin to improve the strength of your hair, which also helps keep shiny hair. Protein drinks and foods are essential to building weak hair. Anytime you build up your hair, it increases shine. - Vitamin A is also essential to your hair, just as much as vitamin B. (B vitamins are called the ‘beauty vitamins’.) Biotin is especially needed for shiny hair and tensile strength. You can also buy Hair Vitamins. These are formulations of vitamins that are specifically made for hair growth. - In a bowl mash one avocado, one T. of olive oil and a tsp. baking powder. Mix them well and apply it to dry hair. Cover with a cap. Rinse it out after 15 minutes. - If you have chemically treated hair, use products made especially for chemically treated hair. These products will prevent your color from fading or dulling. - Natural oil can also make your hair look shiny. Just brush or comb your hair several times a day or run your hands through your hair several times a day. The oils from your hands transfer to your hair. - Using a hair dryer can eliminate the moisture from your hair but can be very drying. Choose heat-activated shampoos and good conditioners to retain the moisture. - Use Wen hair products. They have been touted to keep your hair shiny and healthy and restore, revitalize, and renourish your hair. The products are formulated for all hair types but are especially beneficial for damaged hair types. - Try hask placenta. These products restore the protein balance to your hair and help give you more shiny hair. It's also very inexpensive to buy. Hask placenta is made from sheep placenta however, so you need to know that information. It seems to work great for many people if you can get past the fact that it's made from the discards of a sheep's birth.
