Q) I want lots of shine in my hair. What can I do to get shinier hair without it looking greasy?
Professional Hair Care Tips - There are so many things you can do to make your hair shinier! Hair color glazes are one product you might consider trying. You can buy glazes with or without color. Use a color glaze to refresh your own color in between color treatments or use the 'clear' glaze, as it only adds shine to your hair. Glazes work best when using the 'dry hair' method. Instructions are on the box!
You might also try using a clarifying shampoo. These help to get rid of hair product build up on your hair that can make it look dull over time. Two good clarifying shampoo's are Tea tree oil shampoos and Jojoba oil shampoos. If you use hot appliances often (blow dryers, hot irons, etc.) they can also deplete the oils on your hair that naturally promote shinier hair.
Another thing you might consider is to apply mayonnaise or olive oil to your hair overnight and wash it out in the morning. Your hair might be limp for a few days but if you wear straight hairstyles, this will work well for you.
A beer rinse after you wash and shampoo works well too. Just shampoo and condition as usual, then pour any beer on your hair and then rinse. As your hair dries, the beer smell will go away I promise! OR you can simply do a final rinse with cold water. That will also make the hair shinier.
You can also use lemon in your hair! Lemon juice and/or lemon products really make your hair shiny. To use lemons, squeeze the juice from one lemon all over the top of your hair. Then sit out in the sun for an hour till it dries all the way. Shampoo and condition afterward. Lemon juice adds red highlights to brown hair and lifts blonde hair lighter when used regularly. You'll add soft highlights and have shinier hair naturally!
If your hair starts to frizz and look dull during the day, just rub your hands through your hair. The oils from your hands transfer to your hair which helps it to be frizz free shinier hair.
Nano or Ion blow dryers also make your hair shinier too, so don't discount them. Make the last blast a cold/cool one and that will help close the cuticle and give your hair more shine too. Also, blonde highlights around your face, light up your face and give you shinier hair.
And don't forget about hair glossifier's. They are great at promoting shine without adding too many oils. Smoothing shampoos and smoothing conditioners also help lay down your hair cuticle, which better reflects the light around you. That makes your hair look way shinier!
Mousse, gels, and deep conditioning treatments also promote shinier hair. Use them regularly for hair that gleams!
Of course, you can also use botanical shampoos made with organic ingredients! Use organic hair products regularly and your hair can look healthy and shiny!
