Having Selsun Blue Problems and Don't Understand It!
Q) I am having a lot of dry scalp and now have selsun blue problems.
I started using selsun blue to get rid of my dry scalp because of the winter. It worked amazingly great for a couple weeks, but now when I use it, I have a dry flaky scalp again. Why is this and what am I doing wrong?
I've used it off and on for years with great results. You may have also noticed that when the weather changes, your scalp may act up more, like from fall to winter or spring to summer. Also I don't know if you use a conditioner but if you do, don't apply it to your scalp. That can actually exacerbate the condition and make it worse.
You can dry your scalp out too much by using dandruff shampoo's all the time though, so alternate them with regular conditioning shampoos. Gentle shampoos or botanical shampoos are the least drying so opt for them when you can. I am dying to try Wen Hair Care Products asap. They might help you too, as they contain no surfactants which can really your dry hair and scalp!
Another great product to try is any Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. They can be found at any retail store. Just don't use them too often. They help clarify your hair and scalp but can dry out your hair if you use them a lot. There are also some good alternatives you can use and some good home remedies you can try.
You may also want to think about taking extra vitamins for your health and for your hair and scalp. You may be lacking some vital nutrients that are giving you scalp problems. Vitamins for your hair will also improve your nails and may actually improve scalp conditions. You may also want to try Super Biotin. Biotin is a B Vitamin that is necessary for cell formation and growth. Biotin is especially helpful for people who have Cradle Cap or Seborrheia, which is an inflammatory skin condition that causes flaky, white, to yellowish scales to form on oily areas such as the scalp or inside the ear.
If you have simple dandruff that only happens occasionally, treat it only when you have flair ups. Dandruff shampoos have come a long way but they can still be drying to your scalp over time and can cause dandruff instead of helping it. Head and Shoulders Shampoo now comes in a wide variety of choices so you might also consider trying it too.
