Q) I am having a lot of dry scalp and now have selsun blue problems.
I started using selsun blue to get rid of my dry scalp because of the winter. It worked amazingly great for a couple weeks, but now when I use it, I have a dry flaky scalp again. Why is this and what am I doing wrong?
Professional Hair Care Answer - You may have better luck with Neutrogena T Gel.
I've used it off and on for years with great results. I find that when the weather changes, my scalp acts up more. Also I don't know if you use a conditioner but if you do, don't apply it to the scalp. That can actually exacerbate the condition and make it worse.
You can dry your scalp out more by using these products all the time though, so alternate them with regular conditioning shampoos. Gentle shampoos or botanical shampoos are the least drying so opt for them when you can. I am dying to try Wen Hair Care Products asap. They might help you too, as they contain no surfactants which can really dry hair and scalp!
Another great product to try is any Tea Tree Oil Shampoo in it. They can be found at any retail store. Just don't use them too often. They help clarify your scalp but can dry out your hair if you use them a lot. There is a world of information and tips on this page. You can find home remedies and various other information to help you.
You may also want to think about taking extra vitamins for your health and for your hair and scalp. You may be lacking some nutrients that are giving you scalp problems. Vitamins for your hair will also improve your nails and may actually improve scalp conditions.
