Salon Humiliation
by Selena
While at my last salon visit with my stylist of 5 years (at an upscale salon), I found a cut and color that I loved in a magazine ad. I proceeded to share this with my stylist and told her I thought it was the perfect color and cut for me.
She laughed mockingly and told me that "I wasn't that person" (as if I thought I was a model) and my hair would never look like that and shared this with her colleague in front of me.
I shrunk down so far in that chair that I almost evaporated. I am torn on going to a new salon. She is good with color, but the haircuts are hit or miss. Any advice?

Oh my gosh! First, let me just say that humiliating or laughing at your client is NEVER OK! I wished you would have gotten out of there immediately! How dare she?
I don't care how good this stylist is sweetheart. Its not worth your self esteem, time, or money to go back to her. Talk to your friends, business associates, family members, or other people you might know and ask them what stylist they use.
If you can't find anyone, go to some other salon's in the area. Tell them you want to speak to the manager. Tell the manager what you're looking for in a stylist and ask them to suggest someone. If you use someone the manager suggests and they mess up your hair, they'll be under more pressure to fix your hair for free! Don't ever feel like you can't 'fire your stylist'! Ask for color and cut consultations before you step into the 'chair'.
If you ever get into another situation where you feel uncomfortable, don't be afraid to get up and leave. Before I got licensed, I used to go to salon's where the stylist's would talk on the phone the whole time they were attending to me and my hair. That bothered me but I never did anything about it. For some unknown reason, most women feel like they are chained to 'the chair'. You are under no obligation to stay if you feel something has gone awry. You can't be arrested for leaving a salon before a service is finished!
I am so sorry this happened to you. I can't even imagine how you must have felt. You are a beautiful woman so don't ever forget your personal power! Find someone to respect you the way you deserve to be respected!
