Safe to Color Children's Hair

My child is 8 years old and has highlights from about a year ago. I want to re-highlight her hair, but need to color it a darker brown first. Is it sale to color her hair? She didn't have a reaction when we highlighted it and we used a cap at a professional salon.

This is such a great question! Thanks for asking! Since your child has an immature immune system, to be safe, you will need to do a patch test first.
Patch Test
Following the manufacturer's direction for mixing their hair color, mix a small amount of color with the peroxide. (This is typically 1:1, meaning one part color to one part peroxide.)
Apply a small amount under your child's forearm. (Or anywhere else that's concealed on her body.) Watch the area very carefully. If no reaction happens within about 10 - 15 minutes, (no itching or burning), you can safely color her hair. If she complains about it hurting in any way however, get the color mixture off of her skin immediately, and rinse the area well with cool water. Apply aloe gel if needed.
