How to Remove Age Spots Naturally

There are many easy ways to remove age spots naturally. Which methods you choose to treat them depends on how many you have, how dark they are, and your natural skin tone.

If you have a lighter skin tone, fading dark marks won’t be as noticeable. If you have a darker skin tone, fading them can lead to more skin discolorations or spotted skin.

Fading an entire area, (for example your face) might be the least noticeable way to remove them, but it's a good idea to work on the darkest areas first.

If you don't already have them, the best way to avoid getting age spots is to stay out of the sun. Use wide spectrum sunblocks, wear hats and protective clothing, and stay indoors during the middle part of the day when the sun is highest and strongest. If you already have them, it's never too late. Protect yourself from the damaging rays of the sun and you can help prevent further damage!

You can help prevent liver spots if you stay out of the sun as much as possible and use sunless tanners for a natural looking tan if darker skin is something that's important to you.

There are many fade creams on the market that can help reduce your chances of ever getting them. However, there are many natural ways you can fade, reduce, and remove age spots too. In a down-turned economy, its helpful to know some unconventional ways to handle them.

Your Diet to Remove Age Spots

  • Your diet has a direct effect on your the appearance of your skin. If you aren't eating nutritional foods, how can you expect your complexion to reflect anything good?

  • Avoid sweets, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and junk foods. All of these contribute to aging and affect your skin negatively. Alcohol, especially, can be difficult to quit, so help with the over consumption of alcohol should be sought if necessary.

  • Avoid rancid oils. Refrigerate nuts, grains, and seeds after you open them. Try to avoid many fried foods as the hot cooking oils contain toxins that may damage your skin.

  • Eat Beta Carotene/Vitamin A rich foods such as carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, mango, and cauliflower. Eat more potassium rich foods such as banana, potato, coconut-water, sweet potato, almonds, spinach, and ground-nuts.

  • Vitamin E helps slow down the aging process and aid in tissue (skin) repair. Include Vitamin E rich foods in your diet such as almonds, cashews, peanuts, and oils, like sunflower oil, sesame oil, and peanut oil. Also include Vitamin C rich foods such as kiwi, strawberries, papaya, oranges, and tomatoes.

How to Remove Age Spots Naturally

  • Did you know that age spots are also called 'liver spots'? And for good reason! *If your liver is congested, you will only have more and more spots to treat. That's why one of the best ways to remove age spots is to make sure your liver is running efficiently. You can do simple cleansing or for more stubborn spots, do a flush your liver. Even if you don't think you have gallstones, you probably do!

It only makes sense that when your liver is clean, you eliminate liver spots!

*Note - Some people believe that a congested liver does NOT cause dark areas on the skin... that this is just an old wives tale! But I'm here to tell ya that this is absolutely true!

  • Rub fresh aloe vera or aloe vera gel on your discolorations. There is a substance in aloe that may help remove age spots. Use the gel twice a day for a month or two. Aloe gel is also great for treating burns, sunburned skin, freckles and scars from pimples. It also firms the skin.

  • Combine two parts of apple cider vinegar with one part of orange juice and apply to your skin discolorations with a cotton ball.

  • Most people know that buttermilk is not just good for their health but did you also know it can help remove age spots too? Dab buttermilk on problem areas twice a day everyday. Discolorations should disappear in about a month.

  • Lemons have many benefits for such a small little fruit! If you have normal to oily skin, dab fresh lemon juice to remove age spots naturally. Lemon is a natural rejuvenator and is full of natural fruity acids that help fade and lighten skin.

Alternately, you can mix lemon juice with baby oil 1:1 and apply to darkened areas daily. This will help exfoliate your skin while adding moisture so skin doesn't become flaky.

  • Onions contain sulfur compounds that act as an anti septic. Grate an onion and squeeze it through cheese cloth so that you have one teaspoonful of onion juice. Mix with two teaspoons of vinegar and rub the mixture into your spots. Do this two times a day until the spots disappear. Refrigerate leftover juice.

You can also use the juice of an onion by itself. Cut an onion and rub the juice over your age spots every day. Some say to use red onions, some say any type of onion will work. It is my opinion that yellow or more pungent onions would have the greatest effect.

  • Apply castor oil twice a day to target unwanted dark spots. Gently rub the oil into your skin using circular motions. Your spots should disappear within a month. If you can't find castor oil, use Vitamin E oil or fish oil instead. For best results, use cold pressed castor oil.

  • Bio Oil has so many benefits so it's no surprise that Bio Oil can be used to treat and diminish skin discolorations. Many people praise it's effectiveness so there must be something to it. Bio oil has also been successfully used to treat scar's and stretch marks too!

  • For a milder treatment, purchase a can of garbanzo beans, (use fresh if you can find them!) and mash about 1/3 cupful with a little water to form a smooth paste. Apply the mixture to age spots until it dries. (It will harden as it dries.) Remove gently with a warm wash cloth. Store the leftover paste in the refrigerator and use this everyday for best results. You can also use Chickpea flour if you can find it.

  • Eat two to three Brazil nuts daily. Brazil nuts have all of the Selenium that you need daily. Age spots are said to be caused by a deficiency in Selenium.

  • An natural way to lighten dark skin colors is to drink a glass of water mixed with food grade diatomaceous earth everyday. You'll be amazed at how quickly it works!

  • To lighten dark spots, mix the juice of 1 lemon, 1 lime, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 2 ounces of plain yogurt. Gently massage onto each spot. Keep refrigerated after use. Use at least four times a week.

  • Potatoes have anti-inflammatory properties when they're used fresh. To remove age spots, cut a potato into slices. Place a slice of potato and/or rub the slice onto your age spot. Leave it on your face for 15 minutes and rinse with cool water. This will help reduce blemishes or other skin discolorations.

Try these natural ways to clear up and remove age spots. Which method will work best for you? Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all. Try several different suggestions to find the one that suits you and your skin type best. Of course, if you want the convenience, you can also buy products that are time tested.
