Home Remedies for Herpes – Relieve Herpes Naturally!

Having a few home remedies for herpes may be an important part of your health, especially since it is estimated that 80 percent of the US population has oral herpes, while 25 percent has genital herpes.

The real problem is that you may have the virus in your body and be totally unaware of it.

Herpes can lay dormant for prolonged periods of time after your exposure to the virus. Then something stressful happens in your life and it rears its ugly head. Oral herpes can be spread to the genitals, just as genital herpes can spread to the mouth area.

Because herpes spreads so rapidly and freely, you need to be careful of the partners you have physical contact with. During the shedding/breakout phase of herpes, bumps or sores may not be present yet but the herpes virus is highly contagious and active!

One of the biggest triggers for herpes seems to be aspartame. For some people, the artificial sweetener can trigger an outbreak in just a few short minutes.

Any product that’s high in Arginine prolongs outbreaks. Foods that are high in arginine are chocolate, raisins, peanuts and grains. Foods that are high in Lysine counteract arginine, like provolone cheese especially or any other type of cheese, pork, and milk. You can always opt for Lysine supplements too.

Its important to also understand the difference between HSV1 and HSV2, even though both are part of the same virus family.

Here is a compilation of remedies for herpes that I gathered from different sites. Its important to remember that these are merely suggestions and shouldn’t interfere with a good one on one relationship with your own health care provider.

If you have a suggestion that’s not listed, please submit it in the comment box below.

Home Remedies for Herpes

  • Apple Cider Vinegar - For some people, applying apple cider vinegar directly to herpes lesions, helps dry and heal them quickly. It should be noted that not all vinegars are created equal. Buy natural apple cider vinegar that includes 'the mother'. The mother is a foggy like liquid that runs through the vinegar and is an important part of real apple cider vinegar.

  • Avoid Sugar - To keep your immunity strong during an outbreak, you should avoid sugar and products that contain sugar completely. This includes alcoholic drinks, soda, shakes, candies, cookies, cakes, and ice cream. These are vital sources of sugar which fuels viral growth and shuts down your immunity.

  • Take Two Aspirins Daily - For some people, aspirin works wonders for their herpes outbreaks. Simply take two aspirin daily.

  • Zinc Supplements - Some people have used zinc supplements successfully in their remedies for herpes. Zinc acetate and zinc gluconate both work well because they have antiviral qualities.

  • Acetone Nail Polish Remover - For some people, acetone nail polish remover works extremely quickly if applied directly on the lesion(s), several times a day.

  • Olive Leaf Exract - Olive leaf extract has strong antiviral qualities and can get rid of viruses and even parasites. To use as a remedies for herpes, take several capsules every three to six hours.

  • BHT or Butylated Hydroxytoluene - BHT dissolved in olive oil is a good topical treatment or you can use BHT powder or take BHT capsules.

Note: BHT is an antioxidant widely used to protect food from oxidative damage and frequently used as an anti-aging supplement. Since it is not a natural product, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has prohibited its sale as a supplement (although approving its use in food as a preservative). BHT is therefore only sold as a food preservative.

It is nevertheless true that free-radical damage affects all living tissues in your body. Free radical damage affects nerve cells, muscle cells, internal organs, and more. Those who use BHT in an unapproved manner (as a supplement) believe that consuming 500-1000 mg per day, with a fatty or oily food, helps protect the body from damage caused by aging, metabolism of sugars, and certain contaminants.

Various applications for BHT are either in use or suggested by recent studies.

  • increasing the bioavailability of Vitamin E
  • treating herpes
  • lowering the risk of blood clots for diabetics
  • preventing liver cancer induced by certain carcinogens
  • preventing atherosclerosis induction on arterial walls.

To use this product in a government-approved manner, add BHT to cooking oils or salad dressings 'to retain their freshness'. For example, add 1/4 teaspoon (600 mg) of bulk BHT, or 1-2 capsules of BHT, to 1 gallon (approx. 4 liters) of cooking oil. Shake well. The crystals require several hours to dissolve.

  • Hydrogen Peroxide - For some people, simple hydrogen peroxide can help if applied directly to the sores. This makes sense because hydrogen peroxide helps draw out infection/bacteria and helps dry up and heal any kind of sore or cut.

  • Diluted Rubbing Alcohol - One of my friends swears by using diluted rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball, and applied directly to any sores. She told me it stings a little bit but that sometimes it dries up her sores overnight.

  • Digestive Enzymes - Digestive enzymes can help add back the good bacteria to your digestive tract if you break out with herpes after a round of antibiotics.

  • Try Carmex - Some people swear by this home remedy.

Carmex is a salve for chapped lips and cold sores invented in 1936. The ingredients in Carmex are menthol, camphor, alum and wax.

  • Coconut Oil - Monolaurin (coconut oil) helps to dissolve and destroy the lipid coating on the herpes virus. Monolaurin is a natural remedy so your body does not build immunity to coconut oil like it can with Valtrex. Many people who use Valtrex report that it stops working for them over time. This is because your body can build up an immunity to it, which can make the virus stronger and harder to get rid of.
