Refreshing Medium Red Brown Hair Color
My hairdresser always does a full head with the Wella Koleston 44/66 (medium purple/red brown)
I wanted to try and extend the time between visits by doing one or two home dye's just to refresh a bit as I fade to a coppery brown after a while (usually 3 months)
I was wondering if you knew which colours would be best for matching this.
I did find a dark purple brown wella home dye but wasn't sure if it would be too dark or not
Wella Dark Intense Violet Brown Do you think this is the home version of the colour or do you have a recommendation for a colour match in home dye?
I have attached a pic of my hair freshly dyed to give an idea of how the colour comes out (am a natural medium brunette)

This Wella Color is a level 3.66, which is a dark brown color. Since your hair is a medium brown, it will work but will leave your hair a shade darker than your own natural color.
Word of caution:
Intense colors are totally intense! They are extremely bright colors, almost iridescent in some cases. This will not match your present color and may create a big fat color headache for you. Also, violet colors are more purple than red. If the color is wrong, purple colors are extremely hard/stubborn to remove from your hair. You would probably have to end up using a
hair color remover if you didn't like the color.
Since you are looking for a close match (which is always the best way to have hair color success), you need to choose your color based on your color level, which is a level 4 medium brown.
If Wella offers a red brown color that's one level up, in the 4.6 range, this would be a good color choice. If they don't, choose colors based on the color level system, which for you would be colors in the medium brown level 4 range.
4.1 = medium ash brown
4.3 = medium golden brown
4.6 = medium red brown
You can choose from a wide variety of 4.6 colors by different manufacturers. Since you are in the UK, its hard for me to know which brands are available to you. You should do a Google search, for example, for 4.6 hair colors that you can get in the UK.
The color you selected was also a
semi permanent color, which is the best choice for refreshing color between salon visits since they are deposit only colors.
If you are unsure about any color you end up buying, you should do a strand test or two before you color root to tip to ensure the color is compatible with your own color. If you don't, you could end up with a real hair color mess!
Best of luck!
