Red Hair Color Back to Blonde Hair Color
by Dyed Up
My hair is a total mess. For years, I have dyed my naturally light blonde hair a red color at home, and had great, bright results. About a year ago, I decided to dye it pink, so I stripped what red I could with color oops, bleached it (so the pink would stick), and dyed it crazy bright pink.
About six months later I got tired of the pink and started re-dying it red. The hair that was bleached was destroyed, so I got as much cut off at once as I could and waited for it to grow back.
About six months have passed since then and I've been dying it red again, but the color is pretty dull and my hair still seems awfully damaged. I'm starting to think that I might like to go back to my natural blonde after all these years, but I'm not sure exactly what it looks like anymore, and I'm not about to shave my head or have a two tone hairdo with foot-long roots.
I'm wondering if it would be possible for a stylist to bleach my red hair to match my roots, or it this asking for a miracle? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This depends on your hairdresser. The more experienced they are, the easier this will be for them to do.
Your red hair color would have to be removed or bleached first, (lighter than your natural color most probably), and then toned down to match your roots, so it is possible.
However, if your stylist is unsure of the necessary steps, it could
damage your hair even more. Bright red colors and purple colors are the hardest colors to remove from your hair, which you should know from experience.
Your hair color probably looks dull because of the color changes you've done recently. It would benefit your hair tremendously to do a few
deep conditioning treatments before you change the color again. Six months of growing out your hair would only yield 3" of hair, since your hair grows only about 1/2" per month. That's not enough
hair growth to get good results from bright colors. (In other words, most of your hair is still damaged.)
Going back to your natural blonde color would help you get back the
health of your hair however. Your hair needs a break from chemicals, just as
your nails need a rest from using acrylics for example.
To help you decide, look at pictures of yourself when your hair was blonde. Then compare them to pictures of your hair when it's red. Which 'hair color' compliments your
skin tone best? If you like both, then choose the color you'll stick with for a while.
While its a lot of fun to change your hair color often, it's also damaging to your hair to go from one extreme to another. Think of using
complimentary hair colors when you want to change your blonde hair.
Best advice: In the future,
add highlights or lowlights instead of changing your hair color completely.
