Fat pads surround your eyes. The muscles that encase upper and lower eyelids hold the fat (and skin) in place. Fluids that get trapped in eye tissue and excess fat both contribute to puffiness.
Your body is way smart and you must be too! Your body actually holds onto water if you aren’t getting enough. When you don't get enough water, your body will hold the water it does have in reserve because it thinks its not getting more. Sometimes your eyes are the first place it shows up.
There are several ways to get rid of puffiness. Over night creams work well some nights but not others. For those occasions when puffiness just won’t go away, try these inexpensive methods.
Puffy Eyes Relief
1) Soak caffeinated tea bags in water.
Squeeze out excess water and apply one bag to each eye for 15 minutes. The caffeine and tannins in the tea help draw out excess moisture and contract your skin.
2) Get 8 – 10 hours of sleep a night.
No less and no more. Too much or not enough sleep actually makes puffiness worse.
3) Stay away from salt.
Salt attracts water. If you consume too much salt, your body will actually store excess water under your eyes.
4) Drink lots of water.
If you drink water regularly, your body will eliminate excesses. You can also lose weight by drinking more water too. Water helps flush fat cells from your body, so the more you drink, the more your body eliminates fat.
5) Apply an facial mask.
These are cheap to buy at any super store or on the Internet. A great natural detoxifier and firmer is simply oatmeal. It and has a very drying effect on the skin and will help to draw out/dry up puffiness. For this reason, try to find products that have oatmeal in them.
Gently remove the mask with a warm, moist cloth. Do not rub your eye area. Just allow the wash cloth to moisten the mask until its soft. The rinse, rinse, rinse with cold water until all of it is gone. Gently pat your skin dry. Apply a firming eye gel afterward for a nice firm finish.
Clay masks help draw out impurities in your skin, shrink pores and leave your face as smooth and soft as butter. They are dirt cheap to buy but do such good things for your skin! Use them regularly or make your own in the comfort of your own home!
6) Apply a hemorrhoid cream.
Hemorrhoid creams help hemorrhoids by shrinking blood vessels. Used under your eyes, they can help shrink puffiness by contracting your skin. Apply overnight for best results.
7) Don’t ever tug or pull on the skin surrounding the eyes.
The skin under your eyes is very delicate and so great care must be taken when applying lotions and creams. Use only your fingertips to apply them. When you apply facial lotions, always apply from the outer corner of your eye, under your eye towards the inner eye, up the nose bone, and then around the top of your eye to the outer eye again. Don't do this ass backwards or you'll be contributing to your puffiness instead!
It is also very easy to subconsciously rub your eyes when you have allergies or excessive stress. You must make a conscious effort not to do this often.
Treat the skin under your eyes delicately and you will see much less puffiness.
8) If you drink lots of water and still have puffy eyes, try a diruetic.

If you want to decrease puffiness, then don’t lay down. Sit up or stand up and fluids will likely drain and that will help diminish your bloating.
If you still can’t get rid of puffy eyes it may be genetic. Genetics play a large part in how you age. There is not much you can do about heredity.
11) Facial massage.
Lymph runs through your entire body and you have a lot of lymph glands on your face and neck. If it's not properly circulating, you can get puffy eyes. Do daily facial massage and do regular body brushing. Both will help increase lymph circulation and that helps decrease puffiness.
12) Try an antihistamine and decongestant
Antihistamines can help relieve allergy symptoms and decrease on the amount of puffy eyes you'll get. Allergy medicines typically have antihistamine's in them, but always opt for the 'D'! These are antihistamine's that include a decongestant. Since puffiness is also associated with congestion, a decongestant helps get rid of symptoms.
13) Chilling can reduce swelling.
Sit for several minutes with chilled cucumber slices, tea bags, cotton balls dipped in cold water, or a gel eye mask over closed eyes. The cold helps constrict blood vessels, decreasing swelling.
