I happened to come across one of your hair videos today as I was looking for hairstyles. I really want to restyle my hair. I have been wearing a barrette for waaaaaay to long. I am 45, and I have probably had it in since Jr. High school. Yuck!
I have beautiful thick, wavy, and long hair. I really want to keep it long, but I don't know what to do with the weight on the top. That is why I wear a barrette - so my hair doesn't end up in my face. I can't stand it when I bend over and it falls in my eyes. I won't put up with that. I am not a person that likes to fuss with my hair. I would like wash and wear if possible. Do you think that is possible?
I flat ironed it the other day, and it looked nice for a change, but I wouldn't want to flat iron or curl everyday to get rid of my poofy hair.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. I also do not want to go with layers that are far apart. I like things more gradual, but I also want it to look soft and feminine. I am thinking about getting it cut today or tomorrow (while my nerve is still up).
Professional Hair Care Tips - If you get your hair trimmed, don't go to short or have too many layers. Layers only add more poof. The longer your hair layers are, the better it lays down.
You can however, get the top of your hair thinned, since that's where it's most bothersome. This really helps if your stylist knows what she's doing. If you don't know your stylist well, it's better not to get them to thin too much. Also, use smoothing shampoos and smoothing conditioners when you wash your hair. Many hair products promote their ability to smoothe the cuticle of your hair down. These will help cut down on the amount of poofiness you have. These hair products have really come a long way and work well! After you wash and condition, blow dry your hair down from above your head, while you're gently brushing it out and while it's still damp. This is very easy to do and works well to control frizz.
I love John Frieda Finishing Creme. Its not greasy like many shine products can be. It really helps too. Leave in conditioners like Infusium are great to help add weight and smooth the hair cuticle down. One of the major contributors to frizzy hair or poofy hair is the humidity. Thickness is also a contributing factor. The thicker your hair, the more susceptible it is to expanding outwards!
Have you ever considered bangs? Longer bangs that you don't have to hold back with a barrette are great. You can safely tuck them behind your ears. I love mine! I do agree with you; that you are a little too old to be wearing your hair back with a barrette still. You should be proud of yourself for considering getting it cut and I sure hope it works out for you. Just remember whatever you do, don't get too much cut.
Try thinning your hair a bit on the top, add some soft longer bangs, and opt for some longer layers. Also try and use some of the products recommended on this page. I think you will be pleasantly surprised! The combination of all of these things will help your hair look very soft and feminine and help get rid of your poofy hair!
