Perm after Coloring

by Cathy
(Butte, MT )

I got my hair colored 3 weeks ago, how long should I wait to get it permed?

******************

How long you should wait all depends on what hair color was used and which perm will be used. For dark hair colors, it would be good to wait at least a month. Reason?

Dark hair colors take the longest to penetrate the hair shaft because the color molecules are very dense. (small and packed together) Perming your hair will slightly lift dark hair colors anyway, but right after you have it colored is when the color molecules might still be slightly active.

Light hair colors conversely, have very large color molecules, so it's safe to perm a lot sooner.

Anytime you perm your hair however, your hair color can lift up to one level because of the chemicals that are contained in perms, even when milder perms are used.
