Overly Thinned Hair

I've been living abroad for many years and have a long list of hair salon nightmares probably due to the language barrier, but this time it's worse than ever. I went for a trim about a month ago and since then every day has been a bad hair day. It feels like I've lost massive amounts of hair up top--my side-swept bangs are wispy and lifeless, the layers on the sides that used to flip out in a way I really liked now feel thin and don't lay the same way. This was the second cut with this stylist and I mentioned to him that my only problem is when it's humid, the bangs and layers don't lay straight and flip, they have a wave of their own that I can't seem to control, no matter what products I use or how I dry them. I hoped he'd know a good way to cut them, so they lay right, but I suppose he thought thinning them out would help. I didn't actually see the thinning scissors, and I certainly didn't ask for them, but there were two inch pieces in my lap at the end....and they weren't from the length....

Now, I just can't seem to do anything to make my hair look right. It's flat and lifeless and I'm really sad about it. It feels like I've gone through a major hair loss. I assume I have to wait until those two inches have grown back....but, in general I just wanted to ask how long it takes for your hair to feel 'normal' again after this technique has been used? And, would it be an option to get it cut again, maybe a different stylist can make it look better for now?

Thank you for any advice you have!

The only advice I can give you is to simply trim more length from your bangs. That will make them thicker and the hair that was thinned, longer. Hair grows around 1/2"/month (more for some people) and there's no real way to speed up the process. You can try Super Biotin, which I adore and take daily.

This summer I suffered from a first time flair of colitis, which cause alopecia for me. I have several clumps of hair missing from my scalp, so my hair has become a lot thinner too. It is my opinion that this would have been much worse if I hadn't been taking super biotin.

Just remember to keep your chin up! There's a reason for everything. You now know that thinning your hair doesn't work, which will be helpful for future salon visits and your hair will grow back in no time.
