Overlapping Hair Color

I was just wondering if I do a full color every 6 to 8 weeks, will I have color build up? How long does build up take? Is it ok to chemically strip hair every few months to avoid it?
I am 31 years old and am starting to go gray. I would say I have about 15%. I dyed my hair so close to my own color (My goal) that even my mother hasn't noticed so I passed the test LOL. I used Clairol nice and easy perfect 10 Glazelnut, the lightest brown. Instead of worrying about roots or growing out, can I do an all over dye every 6-8 weeks? I plan to use the same color.
I do very little to my hair. Once in awhile I blow it dry and curl it but that is it. My hair is very naturally healthy. The only processing done is I just colored it. I use Pantene color restoratives shampoo and conditioner, as well as the Clairol Color Seal once per week.

What you're doing and proposing to do is not a good idea sweetheart. You are overlapping color like crazy, which will change your overall color over time, and more importantly, compromise the actual structure of your hair.
You would do well to only color the roots each time you color and do a color refresher every 6 - 8 months instead, using a soap cap.
You might also mix the entire bottle of color, then apply color to your roots only, and in the last 10 minutes or so of processing, mix the rest of the color with about 1 ounce of water. This will dilute the peroxide enough that you don't damage your hair by applying it to the mid shaft and ends of your hair. Leave on for about 10 - 15 minutes, and wash and condition as usual.
You also didn't say if you were using permanent color or semi/demi permanent color. This makes a huge difference. The instructions I've given you are for permanent color.
If you're using demi permanent color, you don't need to worry about color build up. It rinses out completely after about 30 days, under normal conditions. You can clarify your hair by using a vinegar rinse every so often, which eliminates product build up. You can get the instructions for mixing a clarifying rinse here: (
Hair RemediesIf you continue to overlap, your hair color will get lighter and the texture will get so thin, it will start breaking off.
Protein treatments are great when you use them occasionally, but too many protein treatments can cause your hair to become brittle and weak too.
Since you've already been overlapping hair color, I would suggest that you use a few
protein treatments with moisture.
Henna and placenta with Olive oil is a favorite but there are many others that work well too. (The Henna in the product is clear and safe to use, and will not compromise your present hair color.)
If you are unsure about coloring your roots, you can get a lot of tips from my
hair color videos.
Coloring your roots isn't as time consuming as you might think. With practice, it will take you less and less time to do and is so worth it!
Chemically stripping your hair will only compromise your hair structure even more. These are much stronger chemicals than the peroxide in hair color. I
do not suggest using them, unless you have to total color mess.
I am not much of a sales lady but just to mention it...
You can get a lot more information about coloring your own hair at home by investing a mere $10 in my
Home Hair Color Guide. I have yet to this day, had anyone ask for a refund. Every time I update it, (which I am behind on doing right now and will be doing asap), you get an updated version free of charge. Just something to think about;o)
