New Haircut for Thick Curly Hair

by Paige
(Louisiana )

I should be getting a haircut soon and I need something new and fresh to do with my hair. I have dark brown thick wavy hair with little hints of red. It's past my shoulder blades, which keeps weight on it. I've had problems with frizz in the past but have cut back on that with products, such as Advanced Techniques Frizz Control shampoo and conditioner from Avon.

But I'm starting to tire of long hair. It has no shape, and is still frizzy in some places. I would really like to cut my hair to where it hits a little past my shoulders, but I'm scared of the "Q-tip" look every one is telling me about.

Would layers help that? Also, my frizzies on my head are in messy spirals, and the rest of my hair is a broken "S" pattern. Would cutting off some length add any curl?(not that I would mind). I am a petite build with a round face and a long neck. With all these points in mind, what's the best haircut for me? Is it ok to cut it or should I just keep it long? I've been through so many bad haircuts and I need a fresh idea. Thanks :)

Cutting curly hair always improves the curl pattern. I would suggest long layers for you and perhaps add some longer bangs to help frame your face. You can easily cut your own long layers too, and save money!

With hair as thick as yours, cutting it short would only create problems and that A frame look.

For newer fresh ideas, try looking around on the net for pictures of women who have your same hair type! Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do with thick curly hair that's unique unless you are willing to do something drastic.

Don't confuse frizzy hair with bulk. Thick hair has no where else to go but 'out'. Its a blessing actually so be proud of what you have. Women with thin hair would die to have thick curly hair!
