Mixed Hair Color Results after Using Color Remover

by Yvonne Viera
(Naples Forid)

I use to dye my hair with darkest brown and it was a black shade once applied to my hair. I decided to buy Color Fix color remover and applied it and now my hair is an orangey/brass color. I am trying to achieve a medium golden brown. My hair is not all one color. There are some parts that are darker and lighter. Do I need a toner, do I need a protein filler, what would be the color shade to apply? Now my hair is very porous and color will grab on faster so I am terrified that it will tun black again.

You have a real color dilemma. You shouldn't apply color to your hair until the orange or brassiness is completely out of it. Plus, your color needs to be uniform all over, to get good color results.

You will need to use the color remover on your hair one more time. Apply it to the darker areas first, then apply it to the brassy areas (that have already lifted) last.

Getting your hair one uniform color is the most important thing to concentrate on now, if you feel you can do it safely without damaging your hair further.

Once your hair is a uniform color (as best as you can get it) do several deep conditioning treatments. You will need a product that has protein plus moisturizers like a rescue conditioner with protein. You are right in suspecting that porous hair will absorb color quickly so you must get your porosity straight before you apply color.

Deep conditioners will help 'fill in' the cuticle of your hair so that your hair doesn't grab the color as much.

Whatever color you opt for, if your hair is still slightly porous, you should choose a color that's at least one shade/level lighter than the color you actually want. (Because your hair will still be slightly porous most probably and will still absorb the color quickly.)

If the color is too light, then you can choose a darker shade in the level you want. I think however, that the slightly lighter shade will give you the results you want.
