Makeup Solutions for Aging Skin
Makeup solutions for aging skin
may vary, especially since most people's skin ages at different rates. However, the problems remain the same. Sagging skin, lines and wrinkles, age spots, crows feet, facial rosacea, and other issues can hinder makeup application.
There are many things you can do right now that can drastically improve the way your skin and your makeup looks!
Every woman over the age of 40 or 50 knows the caveats of trying to apply makeup as their skin sags and bags. It's just not as easy anymore!
One of the easiest makeup solutions is to prevent having makeup problems in the first place... as much as you can anyway! You’ll need to invest more time in your skin care as you grow older, that's a fact. How you take care of your skin is monumental! Here are some quick ideas:
How to Improve Your Skin as You Age
Whichever route you choose, there are some chemical products, nutrients
, and manual techniques you can use to smooth and plump your skin. And although the choices seem endless, you will find over time, the various solutions that help your skin the most!
Eating your way to great skin is difficult in our fast track society. However, juicing is not too difficult if you have local farmers or a great farmers market in your area. Juicing alone can dramatically improve your skin. The newest 'juice extractors' will give you the most bang for your bucks.
*Tip - Find anti aging juicing recipe's here!)
If you simply don’t have time to juice or eat a balanced diet, you’ll need to take vitamin supplements. This is the route most women take since its almost impossible to eat right all of the time. Top nutrients are:
Vitamin B's – are nicknamed ‘the beauty vitamins’ and rightfully so! You’ll need most all of them to keep your skin from showing your age. Find out which are most important here.
Vitamin C – helps boost collagen and elastin production. How much will you need?
Vitamin D – helps keep your immunity strong so your skin is more protected from various infections, viruses, and bacteria. It also prevents dry skin conditions, such as flaking.
Vitamin E – supports and protects your cells and your precious skin as you age.
Other key nutrients you’ll need are B vitamins and omega fatty acids.
By far, retinol creams and lotions are the one product that can save aging skin, at least for women over 40 years of age. If you can get a prescription for Retinol A, see your Dermatologist. If you can’t afford it, buy products that advertise retinols in them.
Facials, Scrubs, Peels, and Plumping
Regularly using clay or egg white facial masks can help close large pores and smooth your skin. Practice gentle massage techniques to help tone muscles. Use chemical peel pads if you have problems like melasma or dark spots. Make your own facial scrubs at home to help clean your skin and slough dead skin cells. (In fact, I urge you to take the 30 day challenge!) Use lotions, creams, or other products that boost moisture in your skin.
All of these tips can help save your skin from aging as quickly. You'll have far fewer problems with your makeup as you and your skin grow older. However, there are many makeup solutions that can help you overcome applying makeup as you age.
Makeup Solutions for Aging Skin
Makeup Problem - Foundations don’t apply smoothly. Fades quickly, show more lines, or make your skin look overly dry.
Foundation Makeup Solutions
Foundations are designed to hide many signs of time! If you’ve been getting by using regular OTC foundations, you may find that those products just don’t work as well as they used to! There are many choices for aging skin that will help improve the staying power of regular foundations.
Explore some of the foundation options for aging skin. There are many on the market so you'll have plenty of choices. Newer foundations like Clinique Even Better Makeup is one of the most effective makeup solutions for aging skin.
You should also use makeup primers. They help fill in lines and even deep crevices so your makeup glides on your skin. They also keep your makeup in place longer and are a breeze to use and apply.
If your skin has lost it’s oiliness over the years, you can help counteract some of the dryness by using cream foundations, which contain emoillents/oils that help lubricate your skin. Almost all cases of overly dry skin can be cured by taking more vitamin D! Make sure you’re getting the optimum dosage for your weight though!
Makeup Problem - Mascara smears and other problems are caused by sparse lashes.
Mascara Makeup Solutions
Are your eyelashes getting scanty with age? There are newer products on the market that can help regenerate eyelash growth or make existing eyelashes thicker. You can also get lash extensions by investing a bit of money. Beware though. These only last a certain amount of time and the glue they use is sometimes questionable. Still, only you can make those decisions for yourself.
If you have a problem keeping mascara from smearing, try using waterproof mascara instead.
*Tip – Waterproof mascara can be a pain in the rear end to remove. An oily based makeup remover (or simply using baby oil) can keep you from pulling on the delicate skin around your eyes and creating more lines!
Makeup Problem - Eyeshadow fades quickly, creates makeup lines, or wipes off too easy.
Eyeshadow Makeup Solutions
If your eyeshadows always settle in the crease of your eyes, you’ll get great results using an eyeshadow primer specifically. They also help keep your colors vibrant and your eyeshadows on your lids!
No makeup works for sagging eyelids though. Although primers can help some, you can’t reverse what nature intended. You can however, get a face lift, which can correct sagging skin quickly.
Makeup Problem - Eyeliner lines bleed easily and/or seem to magically disappear.
Eyeliner Makeup Solutions
Eyeliners are probably the hardest to control as you age. Liquid liners may give you the best outcomes but they should be used in conjunction with a primer applied around your eyes beforehand. Pencil eyeliners are notorious for smearing so it’s best to keep pencils sharp and apply thin lines when using them. If they do get smeared during the day, use a q-tip to help remove the blurred line. However, smeary liners are definitely in, if you keep up with the latest makeup trends, so try not to sweat the small stuff! (pun intended!)
Makeup Problem - Lipsticks bleed and lip lines have diminished.
Lipstick Makeup Solutions
You can prevent lipsticks from feathering by using this trick:
Brush your lips gently with a soft toothbrush or moist washcloth to help smooth your lips before you start. (Helps remove dry or old skin cells that have built up.)
Moisturize your lips with a lip balm or other moisturizer and allow it to absorb into your lips for a few minutes. Blot with a Kleenex.
Apply a small amount of loose powder to your lips and press into them firmly. Alternately you can apply a small amount of foundation or a pressed powder. Just use whatever you have on hand.
Wait for it to ‘settle’ then outline your lips with a neutral lipliner and fill in with your favorite lipstick color. Use a lipstick brush if you have one but use the tube if it’s a bright or bold lipstick color.
Apply another coat of loose powder gently over your lipstick and blot to set. Apply a top layer of lipstick over it if you like a fresh dewey look.
*Tip – Long lasting lipsticks can sometimes dry out your lips but they do stay in place longer. Also, lip plumpers work great if your lips aren't as alluring as they used to be!
If your lip lines have faded, you can create new lines by applying dots with your lip liner along where the lip line used to be. Use a neutral tone for the easiest application. Then it’s just a matter of connecting the dots to create new lines!
There are so many makeup solutions that can actually help correct aging skin. There’s simply no reason to give up on using makeup as you approach your golden years! You may not need as much makeup as you used to though. Choose makeup brands carefully and use the kinds of makeup you have the easiest time keeping in place. Go from Wall-Flower to Cougar-Power when you help reduce the signs of time!
