Foundation Makeup Beauty Tips
Before you apply any makeup, be sure that your skin is clean of debris, oils, and dirt. This goes for the skin on your hands, as well as your face.
If you're over 30, you'll also need to add some moisture to your skin to help fatten it up.
If you use a lotion, be sure your skin feels smooth, not sticky, before makeup application.
Use a primer on your skin if you like bold colors to last.
Test your foundation on another area of your skin to ensure it's a good color match. Because of the sun, your skin tone may change with the seasons so you'll need to adjust the color regularly.
Keep two or more shades of foundation on hand. Mix them together to make your own blends as your skin tone changes throughout the year. (Obviously, you'll need the same types of foundations (liquid, minerals, creams) to be able to do this.)
If you use a sponge to apply your makeup, make sure it’s moist to create a flawless look. Always wash sponges with soap and warm water after each and every use. Dry your sponge afterward to prevent bacteria from growing.
Mineral foundations add a touch of color without much effort, if you're in a hurry and running out the door.
Apply and blend liquid foundations with warmed fingertips for ease of application. The warmth created by your fingers will help yield a sheer finish.
Open your mouth when applying foundation to expose your neck. This tip will help eliminate an obvious line at the jaw.
Throw away foundations that are more than one year old. These tend to go rancid and can cause acne.
Eye Shadow Makeup Beauty Tips
Choose eye shadow tones and shades that blend your natural skin tone. If you’re not sure which colors of makeup to choose, there's a way to figure it out. Follow the rules outlined in your own color season.
If you have a hard time choosing colors, use shadows that are the same color category as your eyes; green shades on green eyes, blue shades on blue eyes, and brown shades on brown or hazel eyes.
If you have a hard time choosing eyeshadow colors when you're shopping, hold the shadows against the skin on your inner arm. You'll know pretty quickly if they're going to blend or not.
If your eyes need a little pick me up, use vivid colors of shadows instead of eyeliners.
When you apply eye shadow to the fold in your eyes, squint your eyes a little and tilt your head back slightly.
If you wake up with puffed-up eyes, don’t use lighter shadow colors. Instead, use soft muted colors.
Mascara Makeup Beauty Tips
If your mascara is new and there is a large glob/deposit on the wand, run it under hot water, then drip dry to prevent clumping.
Twirl your mascara brush inside the tube before using it for a full application.
Don’t close and open your mascara again and again, as this dries it out more quickly.
For longer lashes without added color, use one coat of see-through transparent mascara on your lower lashes and several coats on your top lashes.
If your mascara thickens when it reaches the end of tube, place the tube in warm water for about 10 minutes. This will help thin the mascara that’s left in the bottle. Never add water to the tube, as this can cause bacteria to form.
Throw away mascara that get old. Any makeup that gets near your eyes is prone to bacteria growth.
Apply mascara to both the front and back of top lashes for longer, fuller lashes.
Open your eyes wide and look down a bit when you apply mascara to upper lashes.
Eyeliner Makeup Beauty Tips
Make sure your pencil liners are sharpened before you use them. You don't want them to be super sharp though. Round them out with a soft tissue before use.
Use lighter colors to awaken and brighten your eyes!
When using an eye pencil, open your mouth slightly to relax your eye muscles. It will make lining a lot easier without having to pull or tug at your lid, which can cause wrinkles.
Although many bloggers suggest that you pull your eyes taut to get your lines straight, it's not really advisable. Pulling on the delicate skin around your eyes can cause premature wrinkles.
You can pull slightly if you like. Just be gentle and make sure your skin retracts before moving on.
Before lining your eyes, look ahead of where you want to draw the line. This helps you make more exact lines.
Use pencil liners on the inside rim of your eyes to add dimension to your eyes. You can apply it to both top and bottom rims, or just one or the other.
Black eyeliner makes your eyes look smaller if you apply it along both top and bottom lashes.
Make sure liquid liners are free of globs before using them. Remove them by running the brush over a tissue.
Apply eyeliner as close as possible to your lashes. This avoids the white line you get sometimes when liner and lashes don’t meet.
Don’t wear heavy coats of eyeliner unless you're going for the grunge look.
Makeup Beauty Tips for Lipstick
If you are not fortunate enough to have full lips, use any type of lipstick that's not matte. Lip wear that has gloss to it, makes your lips look bigger.
To remove lipstick off your teeth, drag your tongue along your front teeth.
Use lip balms on dry lips before application of lipsticks, which helps them glide on more easily and nourishes your lips at the same time.
To create your own longer-lasting lipstick, simply blot your lips with a tissue after your lipstick is in place. Re-apply lipstick, then blot it again. This will absorb the oils in the lipstick and leave the pigment and wax.
If you are over 40, you look younger with a little shine on your lips.
Use a lip liner if you intend to wear darker colored lipsticks. Lip liners 'build a wall' that prevents lipsticks from 'bleeding' outside lines.
No matter what color lipstick you choose, apply lip liner to the outline first, then fill in with your color.
When wearing a red lipstick, use a brown lip liner on your lips beforehand. Brown liners help keep red pigments in place.
Keeping lipsticks refrigerated will help preserve them, especially during the summer months.
Avoid using very old lipsticks. The chemical structures can change and they may have a terrible taste.
Are you wearing the right shade of red lipstick?
Concealer Makeup Beauty Tips
Apply and blend warmed up concealers with your fingertips.
Be sure to cover the inside of the nose bridge and the outer corner of your eye where women tend to have dark areas.
You can look instantly younger by applying a concealer to the lines at the corners of your mouth.
Any makeup concealer should match your natural skin tone or be one shade lighter. Use it to cover dark circles around your eyes, and any other types of facial discolorations in pigments.
One makeup artist trick is to apply concealer over foundation so its less likely to be rubbed off.
Concealer doesn’t have to be worn with any other makeup. Sometimes all you need is a little concealer and a lipstick. Just make sure your concealer matches the tone of your skin.
Concealer should be applied as sparingly as possible. You don’t want it to look cakey or thick.
