Magic Cuts Salon

by Julie
(Simcoe, ON)

I visited a local 'Magic Cuts' salon two weeks ago for a trim, and wanted some long layers put in. I hadn't been to the salon before, but hadn't heard anything negative about it & thought I'd try it out. (My hair was below-shoulder length, I'd been growing it out for a year & 1/2).

The hairstylist asked me to remove my glasses, and started cutting my hair. It felt like she was cutting quite a bit, but when I asked - she said "it's just that I'm putting the layers in". She was extremely quiet, although I tried to chat with her, she seemed in a bad mood.

When she was finished, I put my glasses back on & looked in the mirror. I was horrified to see that she had cut more than 10 inches off my hair! I was speechless & close to tears - before I could say anything other than "what did you do?" She had taken off into a staff room. In shock, I paid for the cut and asked for the manager's phone number.

I later talked to the manager, who offered me a refund, and a free bottle of shampoo/conditioner. She doesn't understand why I find her offer a joke. There was no apology from the woman who butchered my hair, even. I've been in tears off & on for 2 weeks, and have canceled plans - I'm embarrassed to go out in public. My hair is now so short, I can't even tuck it behind my ears - let alone style it in any way. I'm looking at a good 6-8 months before it's even chin-length. Is there anything that you can do in this situation? It's horrifying to think that a hairdresser can do this to someone!

****************************

Gosh lady, I am so sorry you are going through that! Seems like Magic Cuts lost it's magic! There's nothing worse than having your hair butchered by a stylist!

I've been going back and forth with a stylist on youtube. He is balking me for helping ladies cut and color their own hair and keeps repeating that 'professional stylist's don't make mistakes'. HA! I was a hairdresser for years and saw it happen! That's why I teach ladies how to do their own hair! It gives women more control over their destiny, in my eyes! Heck, most all women cut and color their own hair anyway! It also takes a little bit of the sting out of it, if you're the one making the mistakes!

The only thing you can do, aside from getting extensions, is to take super biotin. I've been taking it for years. It's a B Vitamin that helps your skin, hair, and nails. Of course there are more hair vitamins that help with hair growth too!

My heart goes out to you, Julie! I had my hair short one time about 15 years ago, and although I didn't like it, other people liked it a lot. (It was so short I could spike it!) It takes a while for your hair to grow back out, but time passes quickly and it'll be long before you know it. In the meantime, try gelling and curling your hair and decide to make it work instead of letting it get you down! There really are a lot of cute short-hairstyles!

In the future, if you ever go back to any salon, (which most women do, even after a hair catastrophe), you'll know to watch the hairdresser with eagle eyes. I'd also make sure she understands exactly what you're expecting her to do and not do! I'd also mention this experience to her and let her know that you'll be watching her!

That's a real bummer cause half the reason for going to a salon, is to relax, chill, and enjoy the ride. Shame on that hairdresser! There are no laws to protect you when you go to a salon, unfortunately! I'd take the salon up on the refund and the free shampoo/conditioner though! That's the least they can do for you! (Btw, Products you buy in a Salon are sometimes marked up over 200%! No bull!)
