Lighten Black Hair to Brown

by D
(Florida)

My hair is naturally brown and for a while I have been dyeing it black. I would like to go back to my natural color but this black refuses to fade away. So as my hair grows out, I end up with very grown out brown roots and have to dye it black again to make it look normal. So how would I go about lightening the black color?

******************

Black hair colors have very dense molecules. To lighten black hair to brown is going to take a bit of time. You won't be able to budge the color until the molecules have all been removed. This can take up to a few weeks. When you can't see any color in the water of your shower anymore, the excess color has been successfully removed.

You can try removing the black hair color with a hair color remover. A good one to try (according to reviews), is The Uncolor System Haircolor Remover. You may also have to use it several times to get the color results you're looking for.

After your hair is lifted to your desired color, you may have to use a permanent hair color in the brown shade of your natural hair color to 'even out' the color results.

If the color remover doesn't work, I would go have it professionally lifted for best results. Black hair color is one of the most stubborn hair colors to remove, besides iridescent colors and purple colors.

Always, always remember to use a protein moisturizing treatment in your hair after any stressful hair treatment. One of the best and cheapest on the market is hask placenta. This product works miracles on chemically treated hair, but also works well on normal hair!
