light blonde highlights in blonde hair

I just recently put blonde highlights in my darker blonde hair. I'd like to make my base color a little bit lighter but keep the highlights without having to redo them. If I dye my hair lighter will it cover the highlights I already have?

***********

Of course it will.

If you use a regular blonde color, your highlights will lift some too but they will still be visible. It may tone them a bit too.

If you use a high lift blonde color (most lighter blonde colors are considered to be high lift) then it will lift your highlights to an even lighter blonde color.

Either way, your highlights should still be visible. You just need to decide how light you want your hair and if lifting it too much, will damage the highlighted hair in particular.

I would suggest that you do some hair color strand tests before coloring all of your hair, to ensure that you're going to get the correct blonde color.

You may also want to do some strand tests on your highlighted hair.

Strand Test

Mix a small amount (maybe one tablespoon) of hair color with developer/peroxide. Mix them according to manufacturers directions. Most colors are mixed 1:1 (one part color to one part developer) but some are mixed 1:2 (one part color to two parts developer) and some 2:1 (two parts color to one part developer).

Select a small section of your hair and apply the color all along the strand. Allow it to process according to manufacturers instructions. Rinse thoroughly.
