Lift Golden Highlights to Platinum

by Nat
(Canada)

How can I achieve a uniform platinum color? I'm naturally a level 5 and had some gold highlights applied previously to going blonde. I bleached using 30 volume 3 times to get a pale yellow color, 2 colorfix applications (not using the end peroxide) and have toned with ivory lady.

My hair is relatively healthy considering, yet still with some gold streaks. I also used Shimmer Lights toning shampoo and Blue Magic hairdressing, which did wonders for the color except those gold strands.

At this point, should I spot bleach? The white hairs are too porous to leave toning on for too long, despite pH balancing porosity control treatment. I am so close to achieving the color I want?

I don't think that spot bleaching would be very good for your hair at this point, no matter what products you've use in your hair to control porosity thus far.

Bleaching too much can cause an extreme degradation of your actual hair texture. Depending on your genetics, most people only have two layers in their hair; the cuticle and the cortex. The third most innermost layer, the medulla, is absent in most fine and medium hair textures. Only people with coarse hair have a medulla.

Because of this, too much bleaching can literally eat away and compromise the actual structure of your hair.

Here's what I would suggest.

Purchase a cream very light ash blonde hair color. Mix the color with 20 volume peroxide according to manufacturer instructions. (Most are mixed 1:1 or 1:2.)

Apply the cream color with a small color brush and brush areas that are still golden. After you've covered all the areas, cover your hair with a cap and stay warm. If you have a heating cap, use it. Check the color after the required time and allow to stay on longer if necessary.

This should give you good results with little to minimum damage. The key is to lift your hair color without stressing it more than you already have.

If you find that it wasn't enough lift, you may want to try a 30 volume peroxide instead, but that's as high a volume as I'd suggest trying.

The summer will also be here before you can shake your booty. If you don't have hair color success, try going swimming in the ocean (salt water lifts color slightly) and/or just getting out in the sun will bleach your hair naturally. Lemon juice also helps lift blonde hair naturally.

Do a good protein treatment with moisturizers after color application. Hask placenta with olive oil is a good inexpensive treatment to use!

(*Sorry for the delay in response Nat. I really had to think this through, before I answered you.)
