This layered long haircut is perfect for any occasion when you want to add a few layers to your hair. It’s actually a new twist on a haircut that I’ve shown you in the past.
When you do this cut, you’ll need to remember that the more hair you cut, the more layers you’ll get and the higher up the layers will be. Its up to you to decide how much hair you want to cut!
If you only want a few longer layers, then only cut an inch or so. If you want lots of layers, cut more hair.
This cut is best done on slightly damp or wet hair. You’ll need to remove all the tangles from your hair with a wide toothed comb before you start. If you have curly hair, you may need to use a moisturizing conditioner or a leave in detangler to remove all the tangles successfully. Also, keep in mind that most hair textures shrink a little in length when it gets dry.
To start the cut, you’ll need to turn your head upside down and remove tangles again. Comb your hair downward towards the floor but keep it lined up: the front hair kept in the front and the back hair kept in the back. Start twisting your hair in the middle of your head so that it forms a corkscrew. You want it tight but not so tight that it kinks the twist. Twist down to the ends of your hair and then make your cut. How much you take is completely up to you!
If you want shorter layers in the front and longer layers in the back, then start the twist towards the front of your head. If you want shorter layers in the back and longer layers in the front, then twist your hair towards the back of your head. If you want even layers, then start the twist in the middle of your head.
The best advice is to watch this video a few times and get more tips! Its easier to show you how the cut works and much simpler to understand! Here’s how its done!
If you've got thin hair and want more volume, add more layers. (Make the cut higher up the ponytail.)
If you've got thick hair but don't want to add more volume, then only cut a small amount. This will give you more body but also keep your hair from poofing out to the walls.
You can also make this cut on dry hair if you like. Its just easier to make the cut on wet or damp hair if you have thick hair.
Always use sharp scissors or shears when you cut your own hair!
