Is it OK to Perm Fine, Thin Hair?

by Eva
(Singapore)

Hi ! I just wondered if I can have my hair permed while my hair texture is very fine & even very thin. I just want to have volume to my hair that's why it came to my mind for a perming solution.

*************

It would be a lot easier for me to answer this question if I could examine your hair. There are some very mild perms on the market but they sometimes fail to work very well because they are so weak.

However, if your hair looks and feels healthy, it might be worth a try. Low acid perm solutions are especially made for women/men who have fine hair textures and thin hair volume. (And/or damaged hair.)

Also, try volumizing hair products. These are great for adding extra 'umph' to lifeless hair. There are too many products on the market to mention.

You can also add volume to your hair by coloring your hair. Most people don't know this but its true. Products like hair glazes are great at providing color with volume and shine.

Also gels and mousse used regularly will help increase hair texture, which increases hair volume. Also curling your hair will give it more volume.

An easy way to give your hair more thickness is to braid your hair when its wet and allow it to dry naturally. When you undo the braid, your hair will be in a curl pattern, depending on the style of braid you used. Gently comb out curls with a wide toothed comb or use a pick to separate curls then hold your head upside down and spray your hair liberally with a flexible hairspray. You won't damage your hair at all using this natural curling method. (Using gel or mousse before braiding will give you longer lasting curls.)
