Improve Baby Fine Hair

by Anita Estacion
(Tampa, FL)

I have inherited my mother and grandfather's baby fine hair. I also color it. I would love to have my hair be my crowning glory, rather than my worst feature exposed to the entire world. Is there a product or prescription I can use to change the texture of my hair? What is the best style for my hair type? What styling products should I use to keep the curl? What about a perm? HELP!

***********

There are a few things you can do to improve your hair texture, but you there is no pill you can take to change what mother nature has given you.

All types of hair color are a good thing on baby fine hair. They add dimension to your hair and add volume to it. Semi permanent hair colors like hair color glazes are especially great on baby fine hair. Both add a coating to your hair and hair glazes are available in clear and colored choices.

To improve baby fine hair, use volumizing shampoos and other volumizing hair products regularly. These products add a coating to your hair to improve your hair texture.

Two products you might enjoy using are Sexy Hair Concepts, Blow It Up Gel Foam and Matrix Amplify. They will help hold your curls longer and enhance your hair style.

Baby fine hair styles should be kept simple. Short hairstyles are always more suitable because they boost hair volume. Blunt cut hair styles, like bobs, also complement baby fine hair. (If your hair is thick enough!)

Don't over moisturize your hair. Too much moisture (conditioners) add weight to your hair, which makes it heavier and pulls it down.

Perms are risky on baby fine hair unless they are low acid perms and are done with great care. If your hairdresser knows her stuff, a perm might help. If not, you could end up singed hair or severely damaged hair. Its up to you to do your homework first and find a hairdresser you can trust.
